Adding to this point, it was known that Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji I-V would have had known Shastar Vidya, especially since Baba Buddha was the one who taught Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Hargobind Ji, (Nanak VI) how to use Shastars. Does Sikhism teach Sikhs to use shastars without any reasons?  No, it definitely does not.  Does Sikhism teach to have violent thoughts in your mind towards others? No, it does not.  Does it then teach us to speak evil of others? No.

Shastars are only to be used in:

1  on the battle field in times of war

2  in self defence

3  in the defence of others, (a) women, (b) children, (c) innocent, (d) helpless, (e) defenceless.  Never, to be used to (a). To mug others, (b) to kill someone who does not pose a   threat to your safety or others and (c)  to rape.

In the absence of war, battle, threat, danger to your or others' life or lives a Khalsa is forbidden to draw his khirpan from its sheath or scabbard.

A Khalsa is compassionate, calm, collected and contained like most Mahapurakhs are in the times of peace.  A Khalsa is always shastartary, always tyaar bar tyaar and practises the Vidya without fail.  A Khalsa does not walk around with a chip on his or her shoulder.  Does not attack others unless attacked first, maintains ahimsa in speech, action and thought.

This is what is meant by ahimsa.  Khalsa adheres to ahimsa in times of peace but picks up its shastars in times of oppression, war, threat, persecution and injustices!
