why India fails at olympics?

Why does India, which houses a sixth of the world’s population, inevitably figure at the end of the medal tally at the Olympics?

The Chinese state media has listed out the reasons it believes are behind the poor show. These are: lack of infrastructure, poor health, poverty, girls not being allowed to participate in sports, boys being coaxed into becoming doctors and engineers, the popularity of cricket over other sports, India’s fading hockey glory and lack of information about the Olympics in rural areas.

In a spate of commentaries over the past week, the state-run media has explained to readers the reasons for India’s repeated failures at the world’s greatest sports event – there was no mockery or chest-thumping, just plain reasoning.

“India has 1,200,000,000 people, and is the second populous country following China. But India’s getting scarce medals in the Olympic Games. Why? Counting by population, India ranks the last in Olympic medal number, India got only six medals in the 2012 Olympics, while none were gold,” said an article on the website Toutiao.com.

“Counting the recent three (2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, 2012 London) Olympics, if the medals were given equally to the whole population, India ranks last.”

It added: “Large gap between rich and poor has made it hard for the poor people even to make a living, let along saving the energy for sports practice. Adding that the government has only little investment on the sports infrastructure, the mass sports and competitive sports are both lagging behind in India.”

The lack of a sports culture in India has contributed to the lack of Olympic success, according to a piece on the website Chinanews.com.

“The Indian culture has hindered local sports development. Most families want their children to become doctors or accountants. Sports talents would be persuaded by family and even neighbours, stopping them from taking part in high-level competitions,” the article said.

“Besides, a large portion of the population is from lower castes and such people hardly get chance for education and suffer from lack of sufficient nutrition.”

Information about the Olympics in rural areas of India is key to success at the event, wrote the official website ChinaPolitics.org.

“Researchers have investigated in rural areas in Karnataka and Rajasthan. They asked villagers about the best job they ever heard of in the past decade. In Rajasthan, the answer of more than 300 villagers showed software engineer, architecture engineer, doctor, lawyer and in some villages teachers or soldiers. There was not much difference in Karnataka, which had a better economy,” the website said.

There was no mention of sports, forget Olympics.

And, then cricket.

“Cricket is the national sport of India. Indians love it so much that it has been religion-like. In India, those who don’t like cricket could be regarded as pagan. Because of this, many young people don’t have the courage to receive other sports training. Indians love cricket and are proficient at it, but sadly, cricket is not among the Olympic events, Indians can’t win a gold medal with it,” was Toutiao.com’s succinct explanation.

The reasons behind China’s success at the Olympics: The commentaries did not specify but possibly the reasons are the exact opposite of why India fails.

Indian education is the culprit. Kids are over burdened with too much study not giving them enough time for any other activity.  Whenever I go to India and suggest to any of my relatives to put their sons in a sports activity they all say it is a good idea but after school their kids have to do homework and also go to tuition not giving them enough time for anything else.

It's the Indian family idea. The goal is educate the children to the point of depression. This is the difference between Indian mentality and other people. The Oriental Races have a similar idea; however, they'd rather have their child be the best at a certain thing, rather than just fit the status quo, (most Chinese Immigrants to America usually own their own businesses, while the other immigrant groups go for the best job). The only sports really given any importance in Indians is Cricket maybe Kababaddi.

Right wing Hinduism does not help much. Caste retards any recognition of talent outside the apex castes; exceptions exist but are only a few. Smearing cow excrement on yourself only gets you so far.

Here’s What Happens to Chinese Olympians if They Fail

Quote

China is known to have a very aggressive Olympic sports development program, but with hundreds of thousands of young prospective athletes trained for many years to develop, only a few make the cut.

Quote

State-run news agency Nanjing Daily reported in 2010 that around 45% of Chinese athletes become unemployed after their retirement from sports. There are also some athletes who are representing the country but are not employed directly by the state.

Quote

With Olympic victory largely valued as a source of national pride, the country’s notorious hunger to accumulate as much gold as possible has placed tremendous pressure upon the athletes to succeed. State media quickly brands victors as heroes while those who fail to perform well are deemed as failures.

It is culture.  Most of india does not take athletics very serious.

Haryana is beginning to rise in wrestling and boxing while Punjab takes the gold medal for drug addicts and ego

Investing in sports would be amazing in Punjab rather then blowing money on weddings and keeping up with the johals.  Why not invest in local sports for there children to keep them away from drugs.  Haryana villages with extreme poverty are finding resources to provide sports like boxing and wrestling to youth.

Haryana offer incentives for high ranking police jobs if you show athletic success an many are jumping on the opportunity

Also in the west I wish more sikh parents would put there children into sports at a young age so they can develop the skills.  Also fix the diet feed your children fresh vegetables or steamed vegetables.  If the parents don't eat meat focus on a healthy vegan diet for children that vegan athletes use.

cricket is far more expensive to play then football in india.  Yet the culture focuses on cricket.  India has a professional league that pays cricket players millions.  Cricket requires more infrastructure then football

Again it is culture an for middle and upper class the culture raises soft boys and girls an not athletes.  That's why the gentlemen's game of cricket is so popular and something that everyone can play like football is not

problem in Punjab is also lack of water and what there is , is full of poisons including pesticides m herbicides and uranium that is why punjab has disproportionate cancer rates to the rest of the world . I propose due to lack of water likely in future and braindead cashcropping using rice that we encourage major organic veggie growth supplemented with cash crop of organic chia seed ...I mean even apney could start supplementing their diets with chia seed and start thriving it does well in low water regions fairly easy to grow as is related to mint . it's a win win in my eyes , as they directly trade with countries interested in the crop .

Also I think you have forgotten that there is a rise in interest in female boxing after a sikh girl took it up in the pinds .

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
