What does maharaj say about suicide? Taking ones own life?

I feel like I have nothing left to live for. No will left. I just keep thinking about the future. I really don't want to do this. I don't want to be alive. Everything about my life. I've failed so bad. I don't want to continue. I know the afterlife is going to be hell but I guess because I've not experienced it, I don't really care much about it. Deal with that when I get there I guess. I don't know. I don't like feeling like this. I don't know what to do.

Suicide is a sin. One who ends their life loses a great opportunity to achieve union with Waheguru. All the karmas that they were destined to live through will have to be lived in the next life. Human birth is a rare opportunity and must be taken advantage of by naam abhiyaas (meditation) and bani recitation to burn off good/bad karma and get closer to Waheguru.

Suicide only ends the body not sufferings or happiness. The soul will get another body (if Waheguru wills) and the person will have to face the same karma as well as new bad karma of suicide. Only Shabad is the way to get freedom from karma. Every human being has sufferings of some sort in their lives and Sikhs are instructed to accept it as Hukam(Divine Reason). More naam abhiyaas (Meditation) in drastic situations help significantly by shortening and duration of suffering and decreasing its affects. Guru Sahib (Waheguru) knows best.

Elders encourage the sanctuary of Sukhmani Sahib during times of illness and anxiety. If you can’t read Sukhmani Sahib yet, start with an audio and follow with your Gutka sahib. If you desperately want see change in your life, commit to a daily Sukhmani Sahib.

The first Ashtapadee of Sukhmani Sahib starts with

simra-o simar simar sukh paava-o.
Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance of Him, and find peace.

kal kalays tan maahi mitaava-o.
Worry and anguish shall be dispelled from your body.

A depressive state is something you need to grow out of it. It is not something that can go away overnight.

Offer goodwill to other people as this creates a powerful positive energy. Focusing on other people’s good qualities can definitely help improve your own state of mind. There is a principle that what we give out, we get back. Therefore, by offering positive energy to, at some time, we will also be the recipient.

Thoughts play a very significant role in determining our state of mind. If we pursue negative thoughts then we give them greater power and influence over our state of being. However, Gurbani helps decide which thoughts to allow and which to reject. We have to learn to be vigilant and prevent negative thoughts from taking hold. As soon as we become aware of negative thoughts we should let go of them.

Avoid feelings of guilt. If we have made a mistake, harbouring feelings of guilt will not help alleviate the situation. In particular, we are seeking to avoid feelings of guilty for minor events of no significance. Often we have done nothing wrong, but, others seek to make us feel guilty for their bad fortune. Instead of feeling guilty we should seek to concentrate on doing the right thing.

Don’t Base your Happiness solely on other people. If we expect to gain happiness from another person, at some time, we are bound to be disappointed. If bad relationships end, we should see it as an opportunity to move on. It is no use dwelling on what might have been. It is also a mistake to feel that we can change somebody to match our preferences. If we seek to change a person fundamentally we will just feel frustrated when we fail.

Have Low Expectations of people. Depression often occurs because our desires remain unfulfilled. The more desires we have, the more likely we are to be disappointed. After disappointment comes a sense of frustration and depression. If we minimise our desires then we will not be prone to disappointment. This does not mean we cannot strive for excellence and achieve things. We definitely should strive to achieve various accomplishments. However, we should try to have an attitude of detachment to the outcome. Nor should we expect people to behave in a certain way.

This is a really good piece you've replied paji.

When I lost everything and everyone and I literally mean everyone, including family, friends, home, car etc, I was at an all time low.

I realised in in my lowest moment that all I have is Truth, God and positivity.

Tell yourself that you are positive, detach from the negativity in all out positivity and Truth. Turn to God.

Even when It seemed to everyone that I had everything, I felt empty and alone, the only thing that could satiate me was God. Gurbani says when you lose everything and everyone, when none of your desires are fulfilled, when you have no hope, turn to Him and he'll be there for you. I have experienced this. Practice Truth, apply Gurbani to your life, I promise you, it has worked with me, and if I can, you can too.

Live this life and do the best you can, it's temporal so don't beat yourself up about the time that's passed, just be positive and apply Gurbani in the future.

Work hard, support your own life with work and practice Truth, Miri and Piri.

To be a balanced soul- 9-5 work

6-7 gym workout

Evening meditate.

If u r ready to suicide then u should be ready to do anything

Like runaway to the mountains and live like a monk, join the nihangs, go volunteer with the peacecorps, go rob a bank, go get shaheed by bombing sirse wala, join the army, go fight isis, join the hippy raw food movement. These could be solutions to ur problems. Like theres this girl and she wanted to be a doctor, she told everyone about it, spent all her time studying, applied into med school, paid over a lakh, 100,000 for it, and she flunked. They gave her 3 chances and she studied really hard each time but still failed and she appealed for another chance. They gave her 1 more try, and  she failed by 2 points! She was so depressed, and embarrased, and felt like a loser. She wallowed in her misery for months. She finally decided to face her fears and announce to the world what happened on YouTube!  Now shes deciding to start her life over and be a scuba diver. You can see her inspiring video called I Failed Med School.

Then there was this indian girl from yuba city. Her mom was diagnosed with cancer. So she dropped out of high school, became a cna nurse at 16 and saved up alotoff money.then she studied n became RN nurse and became even richer. Then she started having fun going to parties n casinos. She became an addicted gambler, lost all her lifesavings, but she wouldnt give up gambling, she believed she could win her money back. She got in debt n borrowed money from the wrong ppl. These thugs would harass her to pay up. When she told them she had nothing, they told her to go rob a bank or they would make her family pay. She felt like her life was so messed up , the only way out was suicide. But then she thought im willing to do suicide, without trying all my options. So she decided to rob a bank. She was a very successful robber until she got caught. Now shes in jail. Check out her story "the bombshell robber"

Other ppl left their families, countries, u know did every option b4 thinking of suicide. SUICIDE IS A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO A TEMPORARY PROBLEM. so try everything from robbing a bank to becoming a monk, to make sure suicide is the answer to ur problem

Because we sikhs believe that u cant escape ur karma. So if u hate life now n leave without fixing it, then next life will be same or worse. So suicide wont even end ur problems.

Also ask guruji, our guru answers all questions, do ardaas n ask should i do suicide if not how should i fix my life? Then take a hukamnama. Guru will answer. U can even do cyber hukamnama

Also check out Hal Elrod and his Miracle Morning.

Guest Fixing it?!?!

It is said, God helps all decisions we make and if something does go wrong, how and what are you referring to for “fixing it”,or suffer next life and be worst off. Where was this referenced from I am curious if this is your opinion? It is very harsh comment. My accounts of actions and determining if I am doing the right thing will differ to the next persons actions… who is to say which person is right. Btw, I did like rest of your comments and giving examples of other options plus what other people have done over choosing death. God bless! Let’s check in with each other and lift each other’s spirits as dark days can come unto any of us. Talk to strangers as you pass by and say hello and share a laughter. It will make someone’s day without you realizing.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
