how are we surprised that people convert out of economic desperation or as an attempt to receive more humane treatment by the society around them?

Do you think it might be useful for some our people to forego the 10 bedroom houses, and maybe downgrade to 8 bedrooms, and use the rest of the money to help people out?

even after conversion, each of those groups still only marry into their own groups etc. The grouping system (or caste - whatever you want to call it) remains intact even after they become Christian.

This could be a blessing in disguise as, to the extent that people leave their social systems intact, there's the possibility of flipping them back.

I would hope that a lot of people just view "Christianity" as another dera that they attend. And people switch up deras over their lifetime.

Also, keeping their physical form (kes) is a devious ploy that the missionaries are using, but we could flip it back on them.

Also, I wanted to ask you what the usefulness of the arguments that Western ex-Christians use would be? You know, the ones that you get on a standard google search like Dan Barker, Bart Ehrman, and Richard Carrier and others. I.e., that the Bible wasn't written by the claimed authors, it was a document cobbled together hundreds of years later, there are many inconsistencies in the Bible and the gospels, and so on.

You ever noticed that with Jehovah Witnesses they always use Punjabi speakers when they come to Punjabi households.

Sometimes they come on Saturday and they are always suited and booted. One of them knocks on your door and then they have a colleague who is standing about 10 yards back.

I normally ask for a copy of Watchtower straight away and they give a copy and then they leave.

You should tell them they're going to hell unless they take Amrit.

Let us know on this forum how the ensuing discussion goes.

That'll probably throw them for a loop (they're used to telling others that they are going to hell).

i know a gujarati girl who belonged to a gujarati carpenter caste and she was dating a gujarati guy from the same caste but he had converted to Christianity, she told me that it wasnt a problem for her or her family  because he was still gujarati!  she called him a hindu christian!    think it works differently for different ethnicity

Yeah, that's kind of a like a popular Punjabi actress who supposedly became a Christian. She actually posted on social media that that's not true because she's still a Punjabi!

you can see why these churches attract massive crowds!  they offer entertainment, exorcisms, giddha and boliyan etc    people love this stuff there.    deras offer the same package as well

you can see how the church has shaped itself to attract punjabi crowds, it gives them Christianity but dont take away the punjabism,  they incorporate it

That's one reason I think it's stupid for our missionaries to do what they are doing, which is basically taking the spirit and flavor out of religion and replacing it with a boring lecture on why it's useless to do paath.

Christianity left to its own devices in India without foreign intervention will likely be absorbed back in.

Jesus Christ will probably become the 9th or 10th avatar of Vishnu.

Interesting. Do you think with the decline of Christianity in the West, a day will come when the money for foreign conversion funding will dry up?

Also, in the West, as people become more educated, they become less Christian. 11% of college educated in America are atheists, only 4% who are high school grads.

Given that this is the case, after Indians (or Punjabis) who convert become better educated, do you think they will leave the the Christianity that their parents converted into?

They don't seem to be enjoying themselves. They seem to be pushed into it and you can tell that they would rather be somewhere else.

It seems to be a condition for these people to attend just to get what they have been promised.

It's really sad that Christians go around to really poor people and dangle a morsel of of food over them and say, "Convert, and then I'll give you some food."

They are taking advantage of people to meet their conversion target quotas dictated by their financial sponsors.

They won't confront you with this openly, but Christians are taught to believe religions based on Vedic traditions (including faiths like Buddhism) are ultimately in homage to Satan and the many pre-Christian demonic entities such as Baphomet, etc.

So whenever some chumcha Sikh community "leader" ends up promoting inter-faith dialogue with the Semetic religions, it would serve him well to realise that the people with whom he's sipping watery tea and shaking hands for a photo opportunity, believe he's a devil worshipper.

Thanks for point this out. Though, there's also the fact that all Christians are not unified in that belief. It's true the Bible states that there are satan-derived religions, but that's different from saying a specific region is of the devil.

Some Christian preachers make that connection. Other denominations (like Unitarians) explicitly reject that.

There is one area of the church that is aggressive and that is the evangelicals.

These christian denominations compete with each other and try to take followers off each other.

Christianity has had a presence in India for nearly 2000 years with the Syrian church.

However, the churches have been expanding in Africa and Asia.

What has happened is that Churches like the Anglican Church has allowed gay priests to be ordained but Anglicans in Africa are more conservative about these things,so there will be schisms.

Once these schisms are present, the influences will be diluted as well as the funding.

Yeah, that's different because they were just present. They were aggressively converting people (like with $$ or with targeting).

The reason being they are poor people desperate for help.

Again, a question that people in developing countries should ask is "If Christianity is so great, then why are people in the West not desperate for cancer treatment, college help, or whatever, abandoning Christianity?"

Weekly attendance is at 10%, going down from anywhere between .3% to 1% per year.

If no one goes to church, they'll have a hard time maintaining the buildings, much less funding conversion abroad.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
