Well not by my own will, but my grandad put a spoon of brandy in my mouth when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I hated it and would never drink it ever again in my life.

Culturally, apnay need to acknowledge that this was a common strategy to deal with colds and THE cold. Even saw uncles do it when they had to work in the freezing cold, with blistering winds on building sites.
