2. You might cut your hair when u grow up.

3. People don't hire amritdharis.

4. When will u get if u take Amrit.

5. You don't need to take Amrit to be a true Sikh. (I know this but I said u r not a complete Sikh)

6. God doesn't give anything to amritdharis

These r some of the issues I am facing please help

You're parents are right you are too young, the rest of their reasons are just plain stupid. Don't rush into Amrit and take your time learning everything, become a candidate of Sikhi before taking amrit. Even Mahapurkhs like Bhai Sahib Bhai Randhir Singh Ji took their time and got into Rehit before taking Amrit.

1. My parents tell me that I am to young to take amrit.

We have 3 things which belongs to god / Vaheguru. 1. Our soul which the source of god comes from. Our body which our souls reside to get back to the one source, the one akal purakh. And our mind which can we can either train with help of sadhana and bani to get closer to the source of light which is also Vaheguru.

Now that you are 12 your body is going through alot of changes until you reach the age of around 25.

What your parents worry about is Puberty

Your soul will be the same. However your body and mind will go through some drastic changes. Puberty is a very sensitive part especially related to future school and work life.If you do not have a constant sadhana that can help you through puberty , this time of your life can be very diffucult. And as stated in the video, most of us that are adults speak with experiance.

2. You are going to cut your hair when you get older.

Also based on experiance. Your parents maybe even took amrit themselves during young age/teens and speak of experiance. Without constant sadhana you will not have a back up plan when the time comes.

3. People don't hire amritdharis.

Depends on which field you will apply. One reason is why most sikhs around the world get jobs is because they have been raised by thier parents to take a specialist field were the employer market needs people. For example by becoming a pathologist, a doctor that studies diseases and cells.

 4. When will you get if you take amrit?

???

:/

5.   You don't need to take Amrit to be a true Sikh.

Sikh means a learner / disciple. With that perspective everyone in the world is a sikh because we learn through life. Being a sikh of the guru, a gursikh is a difference. More of that is discussed in the video above.

6. God doesn't give anything to amritdharis

EDIT: Viktor Frankl experiances.

7. I am depressed, what should I do?

No offense but from your writing you seem a bit immature. What is your current maryada right now? The battle of your teenage years are also coming-up, and if you don't stsy strong during that era, you will fail! And no lie, don't really understand what number #4 means. If you really want to and not act like an immature guy making rash decisions because a preacher told you once to take Amrit with lots of "inspiration", then please understand what Amrit is, you are giving your head, (life), to the true Guru. Amrit means beyond death, Daas has taken Amrit; however, it certainly wasn't a rash decision, and took many years of contemplating and growing Rehat, the best solution is to take a Hukamnama.

They might not be saying that you cannot take it but maybe not to rush. If you still want to,  you will have to sacrifice by waking up at amritvela which is around 2am and can be hard especially for school.

A person is never too young to take amrit.  However you need to understand the seriousness of taking Amrit.  When taking Amrit don't base it on feelings.  Taking Amrit is an inner desire to follow the Guru's hukam.  For example many people get into relationships saying they love the other person, but all they had were temporary feelings and they break up after days, weeks or months.  Taking Amrit is not to be seen in this way.  Taking Amrit is a life long commitment.  You may or may not face ruff times after taking Amrit, but it all depends on your commitment.

The older generation says they were married off too early and some are being divorced.  Yet today adults are getting married later on in life, "when they are ready" and they have the highest divorce rate in all time history.  Did these adults not stand before Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji and make a commitment?  It's not how old you are, but your level of commitment to trust Guru Sahib and continue on the path.  Age has nothing to do with this at all.

You don't need to provide a response for your parents ill conceived reasons.  But follow the Guru's instructions as an Amritdhari and Guru Sahib will do his kirpa on you and bless you with Amrit.  Ignore the negativity and stick to following Sikhi.  Surround yourself with people who are Amritdhari and follow the Sikh teachings.

Firstly, congratulations on facing the battle that many older brothers & sisters on this forum will have faced at some point along their journey towards the Guru.  Secondary, well done for considering the Gurus path as your true calling for the rest of your time on this earth, after all tomorrow isn't promised today.  Thirdly, contrary to the comments of some, you have shown great maturity by taking steps to counter your parents views, because most 12 yr olds I know or have come across are more interested in the latest fads or trends, rather that becoming Guru-Centred.  We are often told that our parents know best and this is true in most cases, but it all depends on just who we consider to be our true parents.

Anyway, coming to forums like this for answers to questions like yours can often leave you with more/further questions rather that the resolution that you are looking for.  My personal advise would be to go to Gurdwara Sahib and do ardas to Guru Maharaj for what you truly desire, then take a hukamnama and read and think about that hukamnama and what it means to your journey, on a daily basis.  If you think it will help and more importantly if your parents will listen, contact a Guru-Centred organisation like Basics of sikhi, Everythings13 or Sikh Awareness Society and ask them if they would mind speaking to your parents on your behalf.

Stay strong and always talk to Guru Sahib as Guru is the answer to everything.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! I was in a similar situation when I was young. I wanted to take amrit but back then I really didn't know what it was. I thought it was just a ceremony and I will my very own kirpan. My parents stopped me from taking amrit. Over the past 5 years I worked on learning gurmukhi (sangattv online youtube videos), learning my nitnem and keeping rehit. Gursikh should want to be in sangat, have the walk the talk the mentality and the prem that Gurus sikh has to take amrit. I see many people take amrit and break it like its nothing, eat egg and think they are still Gursikhs. Life gets hard after amrit but Guru ji makes it easy if you are getting what I am trying to say. About 2 years ago I took Amrit at an AKJ smagam and have recently kept bibek but these things are only achieved when you take that first initial step. If you know your bani, the rehit and you love sangat then I say take it. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh

no offense but the OP IS 12 ...doh

I had Amrit at ten wanted it from age 8.5 , I was rehitvaan solidly during my youth ...it is the best time to have amrit as there are no guarantees of the next breath plus you haven't engaged in any of the major paaps  neither likely to accumulate in that age so Bhgati will have better effects. It is best to get on Nanak Naam Jahaz sooner than later , sure understand rehit and also organise your resources for your daily nitnem and life . Your parents are also on their journey but they should not be your main obstacle to sikhi , watch english katha of the banian on Basics of Sikhi and discuss with them , help them see how ready you are .

I was about your age when I took Amrit. I'd suggest you wait but I could be wrong in your case! The world is very undisciplined and staying disciplined is going to take a man out of you!

Life is not about being depressed, stay happy while facing all challenges of the life. Easier said than done but try it! Once you able to do that, you are ready for Amrit!

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
