Scary demographics change of punjab

Recommended Posts

Many say migration to foreign countries is to blame , but we just see lesser and lesser turbans in punjab every day. Even in the holy city of amritsar , one sees lesser proportions of turbaned youths . Recently inaugurated IIM at Amritsar offers a scarier picture on its official website. The batch picture of students shows most appear to be non-sikh students with shorn hair.

In a batch pic of some 50 students, I didn't see more than 2 turbans . Rest all boys were shorned hair. Are they kids of migrants from UP, bihar ? don't know

Sikhs fell from 61% share of punjab demography in 2001 to 57% in 2011 survey.

If the trend continues, the day is not far when sikhs will become a minority in their own state and hindutva brigade will have a field day .

I think that was the plan all along post the insurgency. Make life for Sikhs in Punjab an uphill struggle, be it education, employment, and agriculture: put as many obstacles in their path as possible, and eventually they'll begin to migrate to the West. Eventually, the elders left behind will die out, and whichever other race or religion of people remains will be the majority. It's from the Russian playbook of realpolitik. The Indians are playing a very long game, and it appears they're winning.

If Sikhs wanted to go back to Punjab and keep it a Sikh majority they could, (don't think this will actually ever happen though), but if you compare it to Pakistani they seem to be playing the same game with their own Punjabis. Among the Pakistani Diasora in America half of them are Punjabis. Even Hindu Punjabis are moving out; not exactly to other countries as much as Sikhs, but other Indian states most certainly. Punjabis seem to be going all over the place in general.

I wouldn't be surprised if the drug racket in punjab is by indian govt itself , instead of smuggling from pakistan as is often said !

They won't win ! Khalsa has seen worse days than these. Just look at our history of 18th century. You will get goosebumps. Just before sikhs got raj , they were tortured and hunted like animals. Forests and deserts and mountain tops were only refuge. At a time, mughals thought they had finished us, but it doesn't work that way lol.

They might seem to be winning. However waheguru watches.

You speak as if some other party is any friend of sikhs ?

Congress killed us directly. BJP wants us assimilated in hindu fold , although externally they show so much of love for us, but I always doubt them.

Can anyone suggest a good book to read to better inform myself about dirty games played by governments/politicians, so that we can all be more aware of what is going on in the world, and specifically in India?

Demographics has changed due to a variety of factors, some state led other led by 'punjabi' stupidity. I've been going regularly to Panjab since the early 80s and I've noticed the changes. For instance in the 80s i hardly saw any 'green' buildings or flags, now I see plenty in the villages and cities. This is from all the outside workers who come in and then set up home.

The 'stupidity' angle comes from going around villages and seeing the 'little emperors' sitting around chilling or doing drugs with their mates while the farms and industry have to bring in labour to do work on farms, construction etc. Likewise the female infanticide has led to more men than women so they have to get wife's from other communities to get a bride (for generations women were instrumental in passing on sikhi from generation to generation). The general population is also now instilled with the 'me me' culture so it's about making as much for yourself than worrying about your neighbour. I've been to the court houses in jallandhar on a few occasions and 90 percent of the matters there are over land or other disputes relating to money/shafting someone else. It's not just their fault look at the NRIs who just build massive houses (inflating prices and flaming jealousy) which are empty most of the time when a small proportion of that money could be used for making Panjab better.

Face it Panjab is a dump and the demographic changes make the likelihood of making it better through democratic means remote.

I am born and brought up in mumbai . If I summed up the total amount of my life I have lived in punjab, it must be less than 3 months , which is nothing compared to 27 years (my age ) !  So I haven't seen first hand the horrors of Punjab, but I do see television telecast from punjab on various channels, esp these "youth song shows" .

Lets face it ! As you said Punjabi don't have it "balle balle" , rather we're now "thalle thalle" (down down) :/

Christians have sensed it and now conversion it full time. Hell, they come on state-owned Doordarshan daily !

So all this anti-sikh activity happens in name of "multi-culturalism". The sly smile on Jr. Badal's face screams loudly "I am making a fool of all of you".

Christians converting, Hindutva getting bold each day, Drugs being pumped from god knows where, and the number of head with dastars is so minimal, I wouldn't be surprised if someone said "Sardars are a minority in punjab". And even of all the sardars that's still there, how many are actual gursikhs ? Many are going to deras, including my own cousin.

The ones who act like "little emperors" will have to bear the taint that their future females will probably be washing utensils in the homes of bihari immigrants . This has happened in mumbai, maharashtra ! Marathi women are maids in homes of non-marathi immigrants because their husbands couldn't get out of their 'emperor' mentality, beggars yet dreaming of long gone glory of maratha empire and in this day-dreaming they ruin themselves ! "Baai" is marathi word for "woman" , now if someone says "baai" , the first thing that comes to mind is "maid" . It is embarassing for them, we should learn from their blunder .

Sikh punjabis still haven't foresaken the "BURRAAHHH" and those saucy , nawab-shaunki songs of Malkit Singh and YoYo ! We are not able to smell the coffee . Punjab is no longer in its glory days and me typing here won't help, I am aware of this , but still I am typing .

Who cares punjabi was once one of the languages of gurbani and sufi qalaam . Now people think punjabi language means bollywood songs and Honey singh's remix !

Seriously its so bad, I feel so sad ! But I can't do anything .

In regards to Punjabis and kesh. For some reason they seem to be very weak in their faith, ethics, principles in Punjab. Even the dastaar wearing sardars that come to the UK , Canada , America, etc...The first thing they do is go and get their hair cut.

From my observation, I would say its mostly about upbringing. Punjabi Sikh parents don't know anything about religion and even if they do , they're too ignorant to teach their kids .

You know in  muslim household, they circumcise their sons when they're small. The child protests and cries loud when he becomes aware of what they're doing to him, but they still cut the skin off ! now the funny thing is when the kid grows up, marries and has a son of his own , he does it to his own son !

This is the reason why most muslims are religious. Now, circumcision is a barbaric thing, no doubt ! I am not promoting that perversion , but just an example of what we see.

Another example, to celebrate martyrdom of hussain, shia muslims themselves hurt themselves and sometimes their kids with knives . But celebrating shahidi of Guru Arjan, we don't sit on hot plates , we drink cold drinks and distribute to others as shabeel ! So much love from our guru, we're spoilt .

Their parents make sure to pass on their religiosity onto their kids. But, unfortunately sikh parents don't have religiosity. So what do we pass ? Saade aap de kol hi nai, assi bacheya nu ki dena ?!!

Sikhi is very gentle in comparison. How many Sikhs do you see who still have Singh and Kaur in their names ? The surnames indicating "great descent" like bedi, sodhi, sandhu, lodhi, etc are more precious to us than the so-called generic singh and kaur !

I keep coming across sikhs who don't have singh in their first names . Too much hassle I guess !?

Most don't know names of ten gurus if you ask them , even the most basic of sikh history or gurbani ! and those who do know they're stuck in ego and taunting others who don't know !

The pradhaan of our gurudwara has set a brilliant example ! He himself is a gursikh and his 2 sons are kesadhari , recently few years back they too took amrit . Since childhood, we would go to gurudwara, attend gurmukhi classes, and alongside we learned sikh history. It gave us some anchor. Nowadays I see concept of sikhi camps, I think it needs to be done much more !

When I meet people and tell them I don't drink or eat chicken, they ask me what kind of sardar I am ! lol .. we seriously need to introspect .

This is just my bit of advice .

Yesterday the giani ji touched on many similar points in his katha which took an hour. Summarized here they are:

1. The Christians had one shaheed Christ and all Christians wear the cross around their necks. We have chaar sahibzadhe, Guru Arjun Dev ji, Guru Tegh Bahadhur Ji and many others... we do not even tell our children about them. However we surely tell them about the pind and our background in India.

2. Giani Jis mother and father woke him up in his younger days as a child by reciting Waheguru .... what is wrong with the mothers of these days. Think about what tune you wake up to and what you wake up your children with.

3. When we are preparing on a journey to go anywhere, or for a wedding - our preparations take a whole month sometimes. So why do we just get up and walk to the Guradwara in a very unhappy mood... sad because we have to sit there for some hour or so?

4. These days parcharaks can travel on aeroplanes, taxis, cars etc, however think about how Guru Nanak Dev ji must have travelled on foot. There were no wells, no rest houses, hotels etc in those days. Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled around the world in chaar udasiya to spread the word of God, to give to us shabads which we never even bother to read. We should be ashamed of ourselves to still call ourselves a Sikh of Guru Ji when we don't even bother to read what he has given us.

5. If a student registered in a college and paid all the building funds, paid the teachers etc, but never bothered to read his books - will he ever pass his test. This is our state today. We have never bothered to read our Guru Granth Sahib Ji ... so who is to blame. It is sufficient for us to say we bowed before Guru Ji ... however asked one question or one shabad we have no answer. What are we so busy doing ?

    • Bro I think eradicating hunger and homelessness has nothing to do with this topic especially when title for this topic is ‘Cannabis vs Alcohol’.  You do not need to Einstein to figure out what elements of Cannabis the poster is trying to compare.
    • No but hunger and homelessness are problems today which is why I think @shastarSingh is interested in a variety of things the Paanth could grow, make, forage or hunt that would benefit them and positively impact their lifestyle. Cotton doesn't grow everywhere. So if somebody has a mind to grow their own clothes, or create an export product, interest in hemp makes sense.  Put your mind to trying to sustain Jathas in varying climates from scratch, for self determination or to survive unrest and you'll get his vibe more I think.
    • Have you read the side effects of pharma? Have you never seen a class action lawsuit against pharma? Have you never heard of pharma faking or bypassing safety and legislative measures? I'd take insulin if I was diabetic in conjunction with all holistic measures.  I'm not against medicine bro practiced properly. That's only a percentage of the medicine practiced however.  Nobody is debating the efficacy of stitches. Nobody goes schizo from Sukha either bro. You're reefer mad.
    • We live in the 21st Century!  Nihung Singhs bana is made from cotton as it always was.  Nihung Singhs to this day do not use hemp for dietary needs.  Nihung Singhs do not live in houses made from hemp.     Marijuana also carries the risk of triggering one the worst diseases ‘schizophrenia’ losing your mind.  This disease is no good for any Tyar bey Tyar Singh.    The biggest ninda is when you make rituals out practices that were a part of our glorious warriors day to day life.  Indulging in these practices when one not living the life of Nihung Singh is ninda.
    • I have personally never seen any young Nihung Singh excel from using Cannabis but you can’t take my personal encounters and discount anybody’s medical findings regarding the use.  The same should apply to you when you make claims about your encounter with schizophrenia.  The fact is that Cannabis does have a link to psychosis and schizophrenia and this is backed up by research. Regarding modern pharma and negative affects, this is too deep to even converse on.  I do know that when Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj was injured from a wound inflicted by a dagger, a European Surgeon was given the task to tend the wound.  For that time you could say that this was the use of modern medical practice.  I also know that Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj also possessed modern weapons.  This tells us that our Guru was in favour of modern warfare as well as modern medical practices. So my question to you is why are you afraid of modern medicine and why are you on the path to making a ritual of preserving something that was used for specific scenarios of the time.
