Anandpur Sahib - Living & Experiencing

Gurfateh Sangat Ji, 

 

I was wondering if anyone has travelled, lived or spent some time in Anandpur Sahib from the UK?

 

I have been wanting to go and experience Sikhi life out there but do not know how to go about it. Any advise?

 

Where do people stay? (Hotels, Gurdvara)

 

How about work - if any?

 

Travelling?

 

How to do sangat or get in touch with Singh's/Nihung Singh's there?

 

Any help or tips would be great.

 

Also just to mention, I have no relatives or friends out there. I went to Punjab around 15 years ago for a couple of months.

I've visited Anandpur, (though I'm from America, so I guess I don't count).

I don't want to be rude to anyone living in the subcontinent, or Punjabis specifically, but you probably have a better chance of following true Sikhi in the Diaspora rather than in Punjab, the Aam Sikh even Amritdharis have become very Hinduized. Unless you are going to the few areas such as Mehta or another Sikh teaching area, you are probably going to be lost if that's why you went there.

People stay with their families usually, but if that's not an option, than Gurdwara, but don't go to those hotels. (They aren't the best quality)

Mate, it's best if you stay home for work, Punjab has very little pay compared to the West, why do you think people move west in the first place? People would rather be cashiers and restart their entire education just to leave. (Heck, if you said you had a western citizenship everyone would be coming for a Rishta with you; even if you were some poor guy with no education and a sh*thole, that's the value of a western citizenship).

Honestly can't genuinely answer this question, so I'm going to skip this and let someone else answer this for now.

Just go to Hazur Sahib; Nihangs in Punjab aren't exactly loved because of the Anti-Jhatka Prachar, and whole Sanatan Jathas hate over there by others, also it's really hard to actually get-in contact with them even if they were in Punjab, so Nanded is where you go. If you are ok with general Jathas I recommend going to samagams of different Jathas, but don't think that they are all believing since it's a completely different situation compared to the Diaspora.

Just keep safe and just because someone will be wearing a Gol Dastar and big Kirpan doesn't mean they'll be a Gursikh; keep alert.

Yes, Hazoor Sahib was also in my mind hence the travelling.

 

Just want to know (if you can help) how to contact Gurdvara Sahibs about accomodation before arrival and which ones have rooms etc?

Go to Shaheedi Bagh in Anandpur Sahib, it's about 5 min walk from Kesgarh Sahib. Ask for Baba Gurdev Singh. Shaheedi Bagh is a Nihang Singh chauni

Don't want to lie, don't know who you'd contact exactly, but if you ask one of the Gyanis they might ne able to help you.

Shaheedi bagh in anadpur sahib is a place where you can stay. Ask for sant baba gurdev singh ji. He does a lot of bhagti. I also recommend hazur sahib as well. There are a lot of amritdharis at hazur sahib
