Another Violent Attack on a Missionary?

Sikh24 is reporting a "breaking" (meaning unconfirmed) story that some Sikhs in Italy may have tried to violently attack missionary Panthpreet Singh:

Quote

PADUA, Italy—News of bid to attack Sikh preacher Bhai Panthpreet Singh in Italy has come to fore today. It is learnt that Sikh preacher Bhai Panthpreet Singh’s opponents tried to attack him in a Gurdwara Sahib in Padua city situated on Milan-Venus national highway in Italy.

If it's true, it's deplorable, on many levels. Leaving aside other reasons, I'll just come to this: 1) Since the evidence of Guru Granth Sahib ji, Dasam Granth Sahib, Bani Bhai Gurdas ji, Bani Bhai Nand Lal ji, janam sakhis, our glorious history as recorded in Suraj Parkash and other granths, Rehitnamas, biographies of Sikh saints, and historical accounts by non-Sikhs is so overwhelming, there is no reason in the world to engage in violence.

2) The aam sangat (normal members of congregation) do not have great knowledge of the sources mentioned above, or even a deep knowledge of Guru Granth Sahib ji. They find it difficult to evaluate the claims of missionaries as opposed to normal Sikh preachers. What happens is that when Sikhs engage in violence against missionaries, the sangat starts to believe that Sikhs have no firm arguments and that's the reason they get violent. So they start believing that the missionaries are correct.

In conclusion, with folded hands, I plead: don't engage in violence, and tell your friends and acquaintances to not do so either, if you care about preserving Sikhism. Attack the missionaries with arguments, not violence.

ਇਸ ਗੰਦਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੰਦ ਫਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। this person deserves all the chitter he can get.

Bhai Gurpreet Singh California is going to Germany to have a discussion with Panthpreet about the dubidhas and discord he has caused. But I doubt this coward will meet with Bhai Gurpreet Singh. He will probably act evasive and try to run away from there as well.

These "so called" pracharaks want these stuff to happen wherever sikh lives in peace. They are planted seeds to go far far land and create pangay to full extent.

Why have these S*** heads when you have western based pracharaks like basics of sikhi, naam simran guy and so on.

simply need to generate local clamour for home-grown parchaarik two great things will happen:

1. more home-grown parchariks will be trained and our kids and sangat will have katha in their familiar languages , with inspiration to learn about sikhi because they can relate better to the young girls and guys teaching them.

2. the troublemakers gravy train will grind to a halt , and the overseas sangat will be only interested in those parchariks who are thought of highly by home-grown ones ..i.e. the ones that have no agenda and full gurmat gian

We need to educate ourselves to educate others. We have a undue reliance on others to teach us and others. We have to teach ourselves to teach.

In the western world usually we do not have the time to learn Gurmat, history, philosophy upto the standards/depths of those preachers from Panjab. They spend a lot of time learning. For us to be able to get over that problem is to consider taking one aspect of Sikhi, and developing that to a high standard and then teaching others.

Like Gurinder Singh Mann has done with Dasam Granth etc.

In the above topic I made some years ago, I said that as individuals we should be concentrating on individual specifics especially if we are constrained by time. It makes more sense to to become knowledgeable in one aspect of Sikhi and to then teach that.

how about Guru Study groups like Christians have bible study groups where they do charcha/vichar  afterwards... this would help the group progress faster and deeply because of the different avasta gursikhs giving their views.

This is an laudable effort. This is exactly what we need.

Meaning that we turn our back on Punjabi, and in a generation or so, we (young generation) won't be able to speak, understand, or read Punjabi/Gurmukhi? Do note that many/most of the schisms in Christianity are due to differences of translation. For example, was it wine or grape juice that Jesus drank at the Last Supper? In Gurbani, does Deen mean "poor" or "religion"? If we're familiar with Punjabi/Gurmukhi, then you just leave it as is "deen". If not, then you make the decision right there as to what it's going to be translated as, and you have one set of people wanting to fight for the poor, and another to fight for religion. (Lare deen ke het).

Do you mean to say (some) "homegrown" parcharaks aren't troublemakers? AFAIK, the tradition-denying "Tiger Jatha" is "homegrown". So is Niddar and crew. It's quite naive to think that "homegrown" parcharaks will have no agenda and full Gurmat gian.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
