Can hukamnama be taken from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib!

Recommended Posts

Some people say that hukamnama cannot be taken from Sri Dasam Granth Sahib as it never got Gurgaddi.

But when parkash of Guru Granth Sahib(then called Aad Granth) was done in Harmandir Sahib around 1604 AD, hukamnama was taken. We all know Guru Granth Sahib got gurgaddi in 1708AD and not in 1604AD. So does it proof that hukamnama can be taken from Dasam Granth Sahib?

People shouldn't be so technical!

If something deep inside you is attracting you to the DG, feel entirely free to open it up at random and see what you can learn from it!

Share it with us on the forum too. It would be nice  if it was translated and we could compare a translation to the original text.

There is no ban on doing this.

Some people might make  some argument about doing this in the evening because some tradition has formed around not reading Chandhi Ki Vaar after sunset. But go for it, if that's what you want to do.

Spirit of Guru Nanak doesn't live in Sri dasam granth sahib . So I wouldn't suggest someone to take hukamnama from Dasam granth sahib.

Also gurbani was always called "pothi - parmesar da thaan" even since times of Guru Nanak. What Guru Gobind Singh ji did in 1708 was merely a formality , albeit an important one.

I have a very emotionally close-to-heart relationship with hukamnamas . 2 years back , after years of being agnostic , it were hukamnamas "answer to my prayers" which actually came true in real world and rebinding my sharda to guru sahib .

Since then , I always turn towards guru sahib for tedious life questions.

Whenever I pray to SGGS, I know , spirit of Guru nanak is in there . The jyot that moved through 10 bodies is still inside . It never left us . We never became orphans . I think that sharda is of paramount importance, more so than the ardas we do before taking hukamnama.

I sometimes wonder why dasam pita chose to keep his bani outside dasam granth.

Few most likely reasons :

1) Sri Guru Granth sahib was already compiled by Guru Gobind Singh ji when they recited it to Bhai Mani singh who then compiled the damdami sahib bir we have today (1430 angs) . Since mundavani (seal) is the final shabad coming in SGGS , it was impossible to add dasam bani in it . Also due to numbering system of gurbani , its not possible to insert in between . So only reliable way was to compile dasam bani in separate granth

2) Dasam baani has bir rass in addition to adhyatmik rass. So perhaps Guru ji felt it necessary to keep it separate from nirol adhyatmik ras of SGGS. Its not "mahalla 10va" , its "patshahi 10vi"
