Mata Ganga and Baba Buddha Ji

I listened to a sakhi yesterday where Guru Arjan Dev Ji was married but did not yet have any children. Mata Ganga was asked to go to seek the blessings of Baba Buddha Ji. Thereafter, she was blessed with a child who became Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

First Question: why did Guru Ji not bless his wife himself? Why did he direct his wife elsewhere?

Second Question: I've read about similar situations where someone will seek the blessing of Guru Ji but he directs them elsewhere. Why?

Good question.

Can you point out the other sakhis. I only know mata ganga jis sakhi.

I think from this saakhi, one can see that its cuz of family. I think mataji might have asked as tho she had the right instead of humbly. If i remember right, mataji is supposed to have said, you bless thousands of ppl with the gift of children, why not bless me as well.

That does sound like its not humble and a.blessing is being treated like a right.

Another reason I havr heard is that, Guruji wanted to give the maan or honor to gursikhs. By saying go to baba budha ji. He has served guru nanak for so many years.

Also it teaches us sikh ppl to offer food and seva to sikhs of the guru. It shows that thats wat makes guruji happy. Basically guruji was telling mataji and us. That if u want something, u should try to please the guru.and this is wat makes the guru happy, when one does seva of their bhagat.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji was Guru, Guru Ji could have blessed Mata Ji with a child, but instead told mata ji to seek the blessing of Baba Buddha Ji, but why ?

The reason is that sant/mahapursh are Guru Ji's beloved. They are so close to the Guru that  Guru Ji will bestow honour to them. In Punjabi we call it Vadhyai. Guru Ji bestows honour to them with things that they can quite easily do them selves. Like a father pushing forward the son and honouring him to do something rather than doing himself.

Just like Guru Ji asked Mian Mir Ji to lay the first stone of Harmindar Sahib, they bestowed that honour to a sant/mahapursh.

This is how close sant/Mahapursh/Bhagats are to Guru Ji and we should take a lesson from this sakhi, do utmost respect of these spiritual souls ,  Guru Ji is very happy with them and if we respect them Guru Ji will be happy with us.

After reading this, you should be able to understand why:

ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਸਨ ਕੋ ਮਿਤੁ ॥

Har Dhaasan Sio Preeth Hai Har Dhaasan Ko Mith ||

The Lord loves His slaves; the Lord is the friend of His slaves.

Har Dhaasan Kai Vas Hai Jio Janthee Kai Vas Janth ||

The Lord is under the control of His slaves, like the musical instrument under the control of the musician.

Raag Sorath Guru Ram Das

Jo Har Dhaasan Kee Ousathath Hai Saa Har Kee Vaddiaaee ||

The praise of the Lord's slaves is the Glory of the Lord.

Har Aapanee Vaddiaaee Bhaavadhee Jan Kaa Jaikaar Karaaee ||

The Lord loves His Own Glory, and so His humble servant is celebrated and hailed.

So Har Jan Naam Dhhiaaeidhaa Har Har Jan Eik Samaan ||

That humble servant of the Lord meditates on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Lord, and the Lord's humble servant, are one and the same.

Adding to this, Guru Angad Dev Ji used to cure people but tell them to go and do seva for a Pir nearby. The Pir would insist and tell people Guru Sahib was the one curing him but was only sending people his way to hide that.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
