Jild of maharaj

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh. Daas wanted to know about the flap type jild that is on the right side of maharaj’s saroops. Is there a reason for it?

I would guess it protects the edges of the pages when being handled during sukhasan by preventing slippage of spine and covers i.e. it make the covers like a framed box especially since there is a lot of weight in the inner section (angs) compared to outer covers
