We need a Sikh Sangat App for mobile devices

I agree that we should create a mobile device app for Android/iOS to access the Sikh Sangat app..

Why? The Sikhsangat.com site is extremely usable on mobile devices. If you open it up on your phone browser, it just works. It's just the right width. It's not like some old-time sites that are really wide, and then you have to zoom in, and pan side-to-side on your phone, making it a pain to use.

It works well horizontally, too.

So why bother to make the admin come up with an app on top of his other duties?

That's true, the website is already made to load a "mobile version" of the website on mobiles.

Still there should be an app that gives the site some exposure.

It can simply be an app which opens up the site in a browser, or opens it in a self contained browser.

Oh, you mean, when someone types in "Sikh" on to iTunes or Google Play, Sikhsangat will come up?

Yeah, in that sense, it might be good, and bring in a bunch of new people.

Otherwise, I think it would be superfluous.

You can add shortcuts on your phone to directly go to the website.

I know that the website is made for mobile phone and for pcs but when you physically have the app it make it better because all you have to do is click onto the icon and it takes you to the app. Yes I know you can make a shortcut but for some people depending on what devices you use, when you use the app it feels much smoother than going on the browser.. Would you consider making an app?

It is not going to make a difference, if anything, a website inside an app will be slow. The app would need some sort of dependency so that prerequisites like Javascript, Flash, etc are usable.

We are now using SSL :)

That's great! Now the NSA won't be able to spy on what people post on this forum. (For those that don't know, the NSA--and likely every other intelligence agency--scoops up and records everything that you do on the Internet. Everything insecure, that is--http vs https.)
