Wjkk, Wjkf sangat ji,

My siblings and I sat our parents down for a serious conversation about their health. They’re getting older & they need to be eating healthier.

My dad said that his body isn’t healthy if his food has ਬੈਅ. My question is..

** WHAT IS ਬੈਅ?  Pronunciation: B with short A sound [ back without the ck ]

It would be great if someone could let me know what this translates to in English, please. That way, we can do better when we prepare our parents meal plans. As of right now, my parents & other uncles/aunties have given vague explanations of the word ਬੈਅ.

(I’m told Fauja Singh said he doesn’t eat things with ਬੈਅ)

Thank you,

Wjjk, Wjkf

I think it’s prounced as ‘Bi’ in punjabi. The word means inflammation. I.e foods/drinks which cause inflammation in body.

Yeah, I've heard "Bi" before not really ਬੈਅ.

Prepare anti-inflammatory foods for the elderly.  Actually we should all be having some ginger soup or sund as it is called regularly. It just means roasting a little ginger powder in a little butter and adding water and boiling until it turns souplike.

Some people add onions, potatoes or other desired stuff. My mum used to add maize flour to reduce the strong ginger taste.

I think that means 'Baa', Ive written a post about it before, Ill quote it here:

"vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh I dont know what baa is called in english, but in doabi bhasha its called baa.. Its side effects are: numb arms+legs/balance problems/head pain/drool/breathing problems/& more.. The way to 'fix' it is to eat a spoon of kali mirch, and the way you know you have baa is if the kali mirch doesnt taste spicy.. I think I heard this sickness starts if we eat too many sweet things, and not enough hot things (hot as in it causes heat, garam like coconuts, kali mirch, ginger, grapes).. So maybe when we eat the kali mirch it burns away the bad element. Be careful when eating the kali mirch though! Make sure to not get it into the lungs. Please forgive me for any mistakes vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh"

Bai things are harder to digest , they take more bodily effort to break down then they also can create extra gas/inflammation in the system e.g. gobi, yoghurt . Because of the overuse of antibiotics/steroids, increase in processed foods  the digestive tract is low on beneficial bacteria so you get younger people getting problems with bai than you would traditionally see. Garam masala is added to our foods to keep the digestion ticking along nicely as well as ginger . Yoghurt is one of those things that people add black pepper to because of bai

Bai or baee or vaee/vai

You should google.it for.ayurvedic info. Thats where it comes from

Alternatively, u can just ask ur parents which foods they dialike and cant handle or which foods have bai.

Then dont cook.those foods for them.

or get them on pro and pre biotics and digestive enzymes (vegan of course) and see them bounce back health wise

I forgot to mention that my parents are amritdhari ∴ vegetarian, & consume only home-made food other than some decaf coffee.

I still don’t know if bai/baa is starch or something else. Thank you for all the responses.

Yeh, she's got it.

For Bai, you need to take garam foods.  Haldee and black peppercorns, as well as ginger mentioned above.

As for pro-biotics,... I'm still trying to suss them out. I'm inclined to believe that home-made dhayeen has sufficient amount of pro-biotics that we need.

Agree, that antibiotics, which apnay take willy nilly for the occasional sniffle, ..do you more harm than good. Use alternative anti bacterials/anti fungals like oregano oil.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
