What is wrong with the sikhs in Punjab?

Recommended Posts

Sikhs in India have no interest sadly. Gurdwareh are empty! no sangat at all! yet places like Dargahs are buzzing with crowds. I remember when i went India in December every Sunday this local "jaggah" dedicated so some hindu holly man used to have 100s of people within the complex, at least 50 people standing in the que to get inside at all times, musicians singing, stalls selling popcorn etc.yet the local gurdwareh on every Sunday at Rehras Sahib time used  to have like 2 people sitting there! You really do feel hurt when you see things like that. Its like people have no faith in Guru ji at all but have faith in Shrines dedicated to dead people.

Another trend i noticed was is getting a kara made with your own name carved in it! Thats how far people have got from Sikhi there

That's true regarding the decorated Kara's, I see a lot of Kara's with people's last names on it. Its just a disrespect to the Kara itself, I also see a lot of people with gold Kara's too.

fitte muh ...now they are producing films in Punjab to denigrate sikhi saroop:

Why is there any outrage about this view being expressed in a Hindi film?

99.9% of "Sikh" women hold the same views.

Walk into any gurdwara at a busy time, and 90% of the women under the age of 50 will hold such views.

Why on earth are other people going to respect us when our own people don't?

This degenerate thinking is now firmly entrenched within the Sikh community, thanks not the RSS, not to Muslims, not to any outside group.  It is thanks to the monay Sikhs that everyone on these forums likes to defend so much.

Unfortunately in the current scenario which has been nurtured for decades now , a clean shaven man or man with stubble is seen as sexier than man who has a full beard.

But who decides what is "sensual" , "handsome" , etc ?

Actually , androphilia (desire for males) is also a societal construct. Imagine : Do women in africa drool over white handsome men they see in movies ? I doubt it . We find attracted to people we grow up with , atleast thats how it is with most people.

Unfortunately , we sikhs have lost sovereignty , we don't have our own political muscle that can extend to all spheres of political/social functioning and that includes the power to frame legislation and social policies.

We can't force a male garment manufacturer to only employ sardar models and not moneh. Not even in punjab we can do that.

If male models on posters promoting male wardrobe were all sardars and we were able to recreate sardar male as the handsome hero in mainstream movies, where do you think girls will be drawn to ? will moneh still be the handsomer dudes then ? i doubt it !

You see desire is a product of social conditioning. And we don't have power over how we socially condition our youngsters

Fortunately though , beards are becoming popular in india with some youngsters. I am seeing some young non sikh men sport big dhadha .

Check out Sikh and Punjabi posts on Instagram. It's not all doom and gloom. Yes, this sounds weird coming from me considering I'm regularly referring to nightmarish and apocalyptic scenarios regarding our future as a community, lol, but there's a noticeable upswing in Sikhs identifying with our cultural symbols and practices in a way that bodes well for the future. Sure, the flip side of the situation would be that social media is a degenerate, shallow, and wholly worthless pursuit of superficiality, but for purposes of "optics" (that's a contemporary buzzword that is relevant in this situation) we've got to start somewhere. I realised recently that I needed to acquaint myself with a broad impression of where we are as a people instead of relying on my personal and immediate experiences and surroundings as an objective marker for my views. Things aren't perfect and if there's not serious change we are heading for problems, but there is hope.

Many Punjabi females have no problem with marrying a guy who doesn't cut his hair or trim dhari etc I really do think people overreact on here lol  Funny how when Photos of jagmeet and his wife were uploaded on here some people started to moan and whine because he married someone who cuts her hair yet when videos like that are uploaded people complain how Punjabi women aren't marrying singhs lol, its like make you're mind up

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
