let's hope for more people who can combine the internal and external aspects to teach the others how to be ...

A turban is not necesaary in Sikhism. Sikhi is more then just wrapping a cloth over your head. Never judge a book by its cover. I have seen mona sikh who are more into their faith then a turban wearing one.

Hi there,

Great thread.

The answer is obvious. When you are insecure in your own beliefs (which many parcharaks are) you need to validate yourself by getting as many people to agree with what you. This is what many of the popular sikh youtube channels are. Hence the binary method (my way or the high way).

Put them in front of another type of person (non-punjabi) and their debate falls flat on its face because they haven't studied or understood the art of real katha let alone themselves.

If you want to listen to real katha in english, you'll have to go find them. They are very rare. Alan Watts springs to mind. Good luck.

I have a different viewpoint. Our mainstream kathvachaks may not be good with debates but if we put kathavachaks like Bhai Pinderpal Singh with anyone regardless of race/religion, i think we know what result will be.

Everything related to our dharam should be highly encouraged to be done in punjabi and that is where the real essence is. Lot of us are insecure or has some sort of complex with our language. We need to kill that first in order to make any progress.

Guru ji did convert the  unbelieving cynics  to believers and practisers ...so yes all Guru Sahiban did this ...
Guru Teg Bahadur ji gave his life for freedom of conscience and faith  and against oppression of humans in that respect.  Sikhi is not oppression but realisation of truth. gurbani instructs Sikhs to do abhiyaas of naam and encourage others to do the same

Wrong he did not convert anyone because their was nothing to convert people to.. He illuminated peoples minds with the truth.. He didn't say any dharam is wrong he demonstrated that the way people practiced dharam was hollow if it was not practiced truthfully and had become ritualistic or ones behaviour was selfish

I do however agree with some points with Jagsaw. Converting or for a better word bringing people to Sikhism may cause family break ups as he pointed out.

For instance if someone becomes Sikh.

Will their family be happy with it? Will it cause family tensions.

So in that sence I can understand why conversion maybe be looked at negatively. The last thing Sikhs are taught is to causes pain and suffering to other people. So if we go out and convert someone then this can cause this.

Religions such as Islam have no moral concious. They dont care if they break up families aslong as the manage to get new followers of their evil religion they call islam.

Saying that. Sikhism is all about reapect people of any faiths. So Its not like Islam. Where people belive non muslims should be persecuted.

People don't become sikh.. It's not a club

if one doesn't pray, doesn't action compassion, lives amorally then starts following sikhi and take on the behaviour of a gurmukh he/she  has become a sikh from an athiest (not saying atheists are amoral before you take that tangent, just illustrating extremes of scale) they have transformed to a different state of being . Thus they have become Sikh

Sadly many Sikh here are under the impression that having dardi+pagh+5ks+daily doing prayers like a parrot without practice = sant/saint = express lane to heaven...LOL!

Fair enough individuals may go through a personal transformation..

these people cant even keep full rehit and follow hukamname yet they feel they know enough of the 'basics' to preach their own version of 'Sikhi' which would not only be false and weak but actually capable of causing confusion if researched further..

a lot of discipline is already being lost/disappearing, which is why we're seeing too many part-time, wishy-washy Sikhs these days..

maybe they should just worry and focus on making themselves stronger in faith first..
