it was a proud and historic day for the Black Country as the UK's first full statue of a South Asian First World War soldier was unveiled in Smethwick - to mark 100 years since the end of the war.

Should we be proud of being part of the British empire which worked against us and the Guru's wishes?   I'm not so much asking the question but making it known the panth will have to struggle with this and slavery during the sikh empire for as long as we breath.

The memorial has nothing to do with how we feel about the British empire.. It stands as a monument recognising the contribution made and the lives lost of soldiers.. It's a disgrace to the memory of our ancestors that someone would desecrate it

Hopefully in next 1000 yrs , Sikhs will slowly come to realization that they were a mere tool for the british and that this KUTTI QAUM that colonized world and brought countless misery and tyranny  can never be trusted ! , let alone be counted as friends

I would be more inclined to think that it's saying "we (Sikhs) are no longer your Sepoys"...i.e. that's all the British saw/see us as; their good ol' sepoys, which was a low rank in colonial armies.

Defo seems like anti-colonial sentiments.

I don't know how some morons jumped to the conclusion that it was Khalistanis. Could be anyone. Could even be a nationalist Hindu person trying to say Indians won't be your sepoy foot soldier canon fodder anymore.

I believe the West Midlands is called The Black Country because of its links with coal mining...iirc.
