A famous female news anchor in the US is names lakshmi singh, the lion last name is not exclusive to sikhs.  Afterall if she was sikh her name would be lakshmi kuar.

Maybe his family name means more to him then the name given by Guru Gobind Singh Ji ?

As far as im concerned if someone uses a castist name then he is not Sikh but a Hindu.
