Kissing in public

The most filthy site was this young white couple sitting on the bench right in the middle of our busy high street kissing each other, using their tongue and everything!  Being mainly a Asian town that is not a common site, it was very out of place and they looked like a pair of shameless pigs.

I wouldn't be surprised if some jihaadi guy went up to them and told them to stop.

Are you talking about tongue twisting or even a kiss on the lips, cheek, forehead or hand.

Lip to lip

But I don't think a sikh should be doing any of that stuff, modesty is not just what you wear but your behaviour and attitude too

Like do you really need to do that in public? You just left your house, couldn't you just let it all out in your house before you left  haha

Well when i used to drop my wife at work , would hug her and kiss her on the forehead, lips or cheek.

I do not see any problem with this what so ever, its not inappropriate like tongue twisting for 5 mins in public.

Hello, I'm also a sikh recently married man, been married for 4 months now and I've always been attracted to my wife, she's very beautiful. Coming to my question, so is kissing my wife allowed in Sikhi? Please note we are not doing this in public but only when we're alone in our home and bedroom?

Guest Canadian

Growing up  in the 70s Canada you did see people smooching on the street. As time passed you don't see that anymore. Things have changed now the Brown Punjabi fresh off the boat Students are expressing themselves by doing this on the streets. In India everyone is supressed but in the Western Culture there is nothing wrong with this. Western Culture have done away from smooching in public. That is the difference. If you want to consider yourself a religious in extreme form this is what happens  For these students there are no parents and there is no shame. It's like seeing a female wearing beach wear means nothing to someone like me. We have grown up with these people but men new to a Western Nation would be talking about how sexy a woman looks and dream or fantasize about what they wish to do with a woman. Animal Instincts.

What's your view on sikhs kissing in public? Is it acceptable or not?  Is there anything in sikhi which indicates it's wrong to do that?

I personally wouldn't do that, iv had a traditional upbringing and that the way I am.

But is it right or wrong?

It doesnt matter

Yeah....it's like our local taxes being spent on local lesbian centres. I wrote to my council once and said, given that some of my council tax is being spent on the local lesbian centre they should at least let me in once in a while to sit and watch. They wrote back saying I was being abusive and would call the police if I didn't stop. They always do that...i mean call the police. It's like that time Jehovas Witnesses knocked on my door and THREATENED me with eternal damnation in the fires of hell where I will be skinned alive for all eternity for not being a Christian. But when I responding to their THREATS by mildly THREATENING them with a daisy cutter they THREATENED to call the police. If I learned anything that day it was the fact that being burned and skinned alive for all eternity is apparently not as bad as a paper cut from a stanley knife. But nobody threatens me and gets away with it. Well....apart from that one fella once who threatened me and then quickly ran way. So he obviously got away with it. But apart from that bloke who threatened me and got away with it nobody threatens me and gets away with it !! ?  And, actually, there was also this one other time that someone threatened me from behind a bush. I looked around but couldn't see or find him. So he also got away with it. But apart from that first bloke and the second bloke that got away with it NOBODY threatens me and gets away with it !! ?

The question is though......what was I doing near the bushes anyway ?   Well, I'll ya : I was sneakily hiding behind some bushes so that i could spy on Sikh married couples showing their love for each other by kissing. I think it's ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING and that sort of thing MAKES ME SICK !!  HOW DARE THEY have love for each other when so many couples have to exist in loveless marriages.....HOW DARE THEY !!!   So I was hiding behind some bushes and making notes on desi couples who kiss each other. Having compiled my secret dossier I took it to the desi town hall and local gurdwara so that strict action could be taken against these moral transgressors. But d'ya know what happened ?  The desi elders at the Gurdwara THREATENED to call the police on me for being a nuisance and interfering in people's private lives !! But, little did they know that nobody threatens me and gets away with it !!!

I forgot I wrote that ^ ? Enjoyed reading it again. Big thanks to whoever bumped this thread up.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
