Why do we need everything spelled out for us?

If, hypothetically, someone unearthed a previously undiscovered hukamnama that stated Sikhs could kiss in public, would you begin doing it?

These questions are a clear sign of someone who hasn't listened to, read, or even understood, even in the most superficial manner, anything about the Sikh faith. It's Muslim levels of morality and Sharia. Youth and inexperience is no excuse. This kind of stuff should be ingrained.

Lol paji I would never do that. Even if I see someone doing that in public I find it gross.

But some sikhs don't have it ingrained in their head. A few years back we were watching our cousins wedding DVD from Canada and he started kissing his wife's neck and naked shoulders at the reception party while having their first dance. It was very uncomfortable viewing!

So for some sikhs it seems it's no problem to do that it public.

What's your view on sikhs kissing in public? Is it acceptable or not?  Is there anything in sikhi which indicates it's wrong to do that?

I personally wouldn't do that, iv had a traditional upbringing and that the way I am.

But is it right or wrong?

Puzzled Bai ji, there are lots of things in this world which are nowhere written but still considered as good or bad etiquettes. These etiquettes change from community to community. For example: Sharing a glass of wine with your dad is considered as a bad etiquettes in punjab but gorey enjoy having drink with their kids. Similarly, in our culture and manners, we consider intimacy and eating habits not to disclose to anyone but in western societies , they do it well openly.

So there is no one word answer to you question as quick Right or Wrong.

With something like that one's first thought shouldn't be, "Evil Sikh! He's going against our religious principles!" A mature individual would view someone such as your cousin as someone who's ignorant of even polite cultural norms, because believe it or not there are many adherents of cultures -- western AND eastern -- that do not look favourably upon public displays of affection regardless of the occasion.

But then why would you assume there's some hidden passage or line in Sikhi that endorses such behaviour? Is your cousin an authority or notable Sikh personality, whereby his behaviour is something to be measured against our dharam's norms, lol?

It depends on the cultural thing... Nothing is wrong or right..

Self-restraint is important in Sikhi, as is modesty. Kissing in public would go against both of those principles.

plus the fact that engaging in physical pleasure while masquerading as khalsa means u aint as pure and unique from the world as u portray...

Thanks   all the answers make sense. A sikh should have morals and restrain, kissing in public doesn't fit in with that. A sikh should have shame/sharam. The characters in charitropakhyan are overly lustful, without shame and are described in negative light, so we should be the opposite.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
