Converting to Sikhism

Hi, i am a 34 year old white British male, I was pushed into the Christian faith from a young age but as I have grown older I have found that I am quite clearly not a Christian, even from a young age I have never been a massive church goer and I can't imagine that no matter what religion I follow that will change. However i find my self drawn to the religion of Sikhism and it's teachings.

I have read that there is no formal ceremony to convert, is it just a case of finding the teachings of Sikhism the most pertinent to you and following what you choose?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

For Sikhs, Our Values/Teachings are most important, Everything comes next.

There is also a Baptism in Sikhi Called "Amrit-Sanchaar". Basically what Holy Water is in Christianity.

But That is for later.

Good Luck with you journey, Hope you find True Path and God in yourself. :)

Hi and welcome.

Why don't you make an account? It's free and it facilitates conversation.

Where did you first start out finding about Sikhism? Library? A neighborhood Sikh or student?

What appeals to you about Sikhism?

There is the ceremony of "amrit chhakna". But I think that you should be firmer in your desire to become a Sikh and have greater knowledge of what you're getting into before you take that step.

At the moment, I think you should just keep learning about Sikhism.

Hi Tom here are some basics that are not for compromise:

1.  become a truthful person- no lies inside or out.  because God= Truth, so you honour him by being an honest person.

2.  remember God always- all day and night.  he has no fear or hatred, remember that (because then you also take on those qualities).

3.  walk away from lust, anger and pride as if they were demons.

some sikhs are going to tell you aren't sikh unless you keep uncut hair, a uncut beard and a turban.  its up to you if you want to accept that or not.
