I am 26 year old . I have not cut my hairs or bread ever till date, but now after so many years i feel disillusioned with sikhism ( in general all religion). I lost my youth under constraints like not smoking, and having low self confidence. Even now i struggle with my life on academic front. In my circle i have Sikh friends getting hair cut but they are not punished by god for that act. life goes as it was before .

hi

you did not 'lose you youth' through 'constraint' of 'not smoking'!   is that your regret?  that you did not smoke?  whats so great about smoking?

alot of youth have low self confidence.  it has to do with mental insecurity/weakness.  and alot of people regret their youth, even the wild ones (maybe even especially them).

and what does having long hair have to do with your academic problems?

are you disillusioned with sikhism or rather just want to conform because you think it will be fun, and sikhism/religion is getting in the way?

also, its up to you what you want to do, but basing it off what your friends do does not seem very intelligent to me.

i thin if people developed their own character and independence of mind instead of wanting to fit in and copy their friends, they would actually gain more respect from the people around them.

don't be a sheep.

that said, it is up to you.  afterall, what is the point of being a sikh outside if that is not what you feel inside?  just be sure of who you are before you do anything.  also, you can always grow it back, right?

(i have short hair btw).

In my opinion I feel that this is Maharaj testing you, its really easy to drift away (from Sikhi) for a bit but then you just got to realise how lucky you are to be a Sikh. Against all odds, you have been gifted this human life to do Bhagti of Vaheguru Ji. The world is entangled in Maya but you can't fall into that trap. Let the world carry on doing what they are doing but you need to have your mind set on the purpose of your life. A Sikh's purpose of life is to merge with Vaheguru Ji.

Smoking is not good for you anyway, it destroys your body. Cutting hair is also pointless. You mention that your friends have not been punished for cutting their kes, however you don't know when or how they will be punished. Maharaj may punish them a bit later in life not right now. The whole reason why we keep kes is because we need to accept the way Vaheguru Ji made us.

Veerji you just got to try sitting down and listening to Bani or Vaheguru Simran, Maharaj will guide you the way. Do an Ardas, take a hukamnama, do seva in the Guru Ghar. There's lots of things you can do, you just need to do it.
