not amritdhari but imo we should love and care for our family whove looked after and helped us in life (returning the favour?)...but try to never become so emotionally attached to em that they influence your thinking, judgement and decisions in life.

but this can be difficult sometimes especially for certain elders who u respect n admire in life...

maybe try to read up on how great gursikhs lived their lives and how they treated their family? ask urself what maharaj would do in certain situations given what they did to provide for their family but also their sacrifice at the end of it all?

Emotions come from the mind. Sometimes we’re happy. Sometimes we’re sad. Up and down like a rollercoaster. Unstable. Unsettled.

The truly perfect Sikh is free from the emotional tanglements of the mind. They are lost within the blissfulness of the Akaal Purakh. Neither happy, nor sad. Neither angry, not depressed.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

How emotional is a Khalsa expected to be by Guru Maharaj? (In terms of familial relations)

That's a REALLY good question.

I guess it's hard to get that balance between realising that all human bonds are temporary, and still loving and caring for your family whilst always keeping the greater Sikhi concept of our real eternal identity at the fore of our human consciousness (whilst we try and transcend this very thing through bhagti and actions).

In an ideal world all members of a family will be striving to break that veil of illusion that somehow separates us from our divine true nature, but in practice it doesn't work like that. People are at different stages due their own karams and efforts.

I think this is why Guru ji told us:

Nanak hukmai jai bujhay taan haumai kahey nah koe.

I guess if we are striving spiritually (which is a blessing because: 'aap vichoraya aap milieyaa' ) we should have some compassion or understanding for those that haven't even grasped this as an objective of human life as long as they are not being destructive to others?
