Taus instrument - Guru Hargobind ji

Taus instrument was created by Guru Hargobind sahib ji. Taus in Persian means peacock. Guru Gobind Singh ji then created Dilruba from Taus.  

This sounds divine, heard nothing like it before

Guru sahib created such a beautiful instrument,  i had no idea

these two Singhs are really talented

The sad thing is these instruments created by Guru Ji have largely been forgotten about. They are not used regularly in kirtan in most Gurdwaras in the UK. The harmonium has replaced them. Yes it is easy to learn and to do kirtan with but it’s almost like forgetting what Guru ji did.

It is really sad  i agree,  i had no idea what a Taus or a Dilruba was or that our guru jis created instruments. It has been forgotten. Like me a lot of Sikhs are probably not even aware of these instruments. 

On tv i think iv seen Taus being played during kirtan at Darbar sahib.

Its part of our Sikh culture and Sikh culture needs to be revived

I remember seeing Bhai Harjinder Singh Lallie in Southampton about ten years ago. It was the first time I was introduced to it. After that, I never saw the taus or dilruba in use until a couple of years ago when I saw the taus being played around the bhog of an akhand paath. It wasn't kirtan, just someone playing the taus as a solo musical instrument.
