Dr Mohinder Kaur Gill is one female I would recommend she has a few books uploaded on sikh book club site

she has written abut the females in the panth's history as well as Guru Sahiban and major people in our history.

(The late) Jagjit Singh is a heavyweight.

I just found out that he was also a chemistry lecturer at university level too. 

Here's a short video on one of his books. There is a link to an ebook (the Sikh revolution) in the book section.

Bhai Pinderpal Singh has read alot of ithihaas, although he is not a scholar per se. Also Bhai Sukha Singh Uk is doing some research and has read alot of ithihaas
