I read this the other day and couldn't believe what I read, surely the money would be better spent in other way's, I'm all for the promotion and up-keep of religious places.

And Peter Virdee, does so much for charity but his Instagram feed tells a whole different story of ego and private number plates, nothing personal against the guy but he never does anything out of the goodness of his heart, there's alway's a PR angle.

How much money would it take to get all the remaining Sikhs out of Afghanistan?

If I had the money on that scale, that would be my first port of call. I'd relocate Afghani Sikhs but obviously not by force. They're welcome to stay in the land of their forebears if they so wish, but for those who aren't feeling it, I'd ship them out and help them set up somewhere where they can prosper.

I think there is also a genuine danger of Islamist fundamentalism rearing its head in future. We've seen what such people have done to Buddhist heritage in Afghanistan.

On the plus though, it seems like Baba Nanak is quite respected by many over there (even if they see him as some sort of muslim). Surely some sullay over there must have had enough of the kuttarpunha they've been promoting for ages now.

There was a special on BBC news (Out World report) about Sikh's in Afghanistan, it was heartbreaking watching how they had been persecuted and the kind of stuff they go through.

As far as the money's concerned, it seems like it's going to be a cash grab from all Sikh organizations and jathebania from around the world, be interesting to see how much Peter Virdee put's up himself.

There was a thread last week on twitter about Sikh's in Pakistan and how they are treated, there a link below to one of the article's in the twitter thread (it's an old article so I hope things have changed over the years)

Is this bloke still being chased by the German government for vat fraud and other countries chasing him for other irregularities? Just goo gle his name with Germany appended. Funny how all this use of trusts happened after the issues. Clever way to protect wealth the use of trusts

I doubt very much that he has that kind of money so it looks likely that he will take donations in order generate this amount. What Is needed is for the Sangat to become more aware and not waste their money by giving donations to such causes. If the Sangat doesn't donate then the idea will die as fast as it is was raised.

I used to go to the same secondary school as him (he was the year ahead of me), his younger sister was in my class. His parent's ran a chip shop by the school, they were a normal family, he disappeared for a while and then came back a multi-millionaire, to this day i find it amazing that he never talks about his younger years in all his interviews or how he made his money, i could tell some stories but i'm not like that, I've got nothing personal against the guy but to say that all the stuff he does is above board would be a little rich.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
