Attachment to Community?

If I feel a sense of belongingness towards my motherland, would that be 'attachment' if viewed through the lens of Sikhi, because Guru Gobind Singh ji told us to recognise the entire human race as one?

Many (not all) Sikhs speak up for Punjab only but not for the people of other states where people are facing some or the other sort of injustice. The way Muslims are being targeted in India these days , even to the extent of trying to force them to convert, is shameful, yet I do not see any brother or sister taking a stand for them. [Diaspora Sikh readers may think whether they are doing enough for their respective countries' non-Sikhs.] We sure do langar sewa but is that all we should be doing?

Have we failed to follow true Sikhi? Why are we not standing up for ALL people? Is it the attachment towards our motherland/community that's causing us to see things blurry? Or would it be practically far fetched to think of such things at the moment?

Its not attachment, its a sense of pride for the nation you belong to or are resident of. Like sporting your home country’s  team in cricket world cup.

attachment which is ‘bad’ in Sikhi is attachment which makes you forget god. Like being so attached to wealth/family/property/ drugs/alcohol 

in terms of standing up, yes our gurus taught us to stand up. ‘Bole so nihal’ means we have to speak. There’s times we Have to speak like Guru nanak spoke out against forcefully adopting Hindu traditions of tying thread on wrist and like Guru Teghbhadur spoke out against muslims forcing hindus to convert. Or like Baba Deep Singh ji spoke out against the disrespect of harmandir sahib

The problem with any Indians is attachment to culture and places or origin. 

 

Guru Nanak travelled wide and far seeing all as one. A truly humantirian quality. Do you think he saw a human in the Middle East as being different to one in India?

 

You just need to look beyond your outer appearance and learned culture and see the soul behind the skin colour.
