thts actually not a bad idea.

one phone for personal/work use n another thts very basic n cheap for gurbani/sikhi n wrapped in a rumalla wud be the best way to go imo. no accidental dirty hands then. but then most apne work in sedantry office type jobs so they wudnt need to worry abt accidentally droppin/breakin/losin it either unlike fast movin jobs e.g. construction work. a bit of awareness n thought n its actually possible.

obvious problems r the 'incovenience' of washing hands or keepin em clean before usin the phone. or carryin two phones all the time if work requires it. n then if we think abt how it was put together by cheap manual labour n child exploitation in africa for materials then theres always gna be a lack of hygiene/spiritual thought/compassion within the phone.

anyway my point is we shud try to keep this bachan of guru sahib in mind n resist laziness. cuz keepin a rumalla on our phone aint hardcore but not impossible either.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe you actually are going to take it that far! Seriously...Gurbani is a gift from Akal Purkh to help us understand this life. Bani should be respected, but to the point you're taking it, it's next to impossible to even focus on the message. With that much fear and paranoia of "am I doing this right or wrong?", how will you ever open your spiritual heart? You went as far as to being afraid that the people who manufactured your phone may not have been hygienic and somehow that's going to affect you? Oh, come on! I honestly hope you don't go around preaching this fear based Sikhi to people because you could possibly brainwash them to also have an extremely fear based approach to Sikhi.

I've seen too many people follow Sikhi in this way. Sharda is one thing, but being afraid all the time of making mistakes is not the answer. Think about how much less Bani a person will connect with if they are always afraid?  Seriously... Open up and hearty and ask yourself a simple question: do you really think Waheguru will get upset with you if you don't do a full ishnaan before reading Bani on your phone? Are these the qualities of God that are described in Gurbani?

ultimately its dwn to the person how lovin or apathetic, headstrong or fearful, respectful or careless, practical or lazy they r abt it.

but again the fact tht these steps r already accepted n used worldwide shows it does work wivout any issues. now this message has gotta keep spreadin n reach more n more until it becomes some kinda standard convention. cuz there doesnt seem to be one atm. thts wen all this scaremongerin/fear/doubt can stop.

From half past midnight to 4am are the most fruitful times for amritvela Naam Jaap.

Do it from half past midnight and experience and reap the rewards for yourself.

Relax and listen to the ringing noise you may hear (anhaad naad, primal sound). Let go and let the samadhi take you. You can go deep into it. Take what u learn in your samadhi and remain grounded and apply the gyan you experience to your everyday life.

Begin to walk the path of the bhagat seriously and you will discover the Truth of who you really are.

Wonderful

You are a lazy person.  We get it.  I bet you don't even wash your hands before you cook your dad's food and after going to the toilet.  The Guru is a gift?  The Guru is our superior and must be treated with utmost respect. I know your the western raised whites of punjabis.  Act educated, dress like a westerner to feel a belonging, need the constant approval of the white man.  You think its impossible to do because you need to attend your western parties over learning how to respect Gurbani.  You rather go to dinner and make sure you eat like a proper white woman and laugh at right jokes and follow those rules of respect rather than respect Gurbani/Guru Sahib.  It's okay, your priorities are to please the world.  If you had listened to even one word in Gurbani you would have heard the message,  forget everyone else opinions and have fear in your heart for the Guru.  Fear/love drives respect; you have fear of the world views, so you make sure you don't upset those who you fear.  Sant Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa feared Guru Sahib and he is the example everyone wants to follow after hearing about his commitment and dedication to the Guru.   Or people can follow you, who is full of emotional highs and lows.  I know, now you will say what is wrong with emotions.  You love the worldly rollercoaster as it helps you fit in the world you fear of losing.  24 hours in a day, if a person works/schools for 8 hours and sleeps for 8 hours that's 8 hours left to learn how to respect the Guru.  How long does it take to wash hands and wrap a phone in a rumalla?  90 seconds.   Over 90 seconds of respect you have ranted on this site for two days; when you could have followed a respectful practice.  I have seen Sikhs do chaur Sahib over a computer screen because Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji was open on the screen.  Its respect and anyone coming into the room will automatically know to bow and follow proper etiquette when Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji is present.  Your thinking is very small.  You have been brainwashed and are brainwashing others to think like a beast.  Why beast?  Because they are very rigid.  Good or bad, it doesn't benefit me or I cant wrap my head around the concept so it must be wrong.

I know you will present or think of the shabads of Gurbani that speak on rituals.  Well your existence  is only a ritual because you have not understood the message of Gurbani.  To this, Guru Sahib says I might as well die because their is no use of living without the Guru.  The western clothing you wear is a ritual because you are not utilizing them according to Gurbani.  Instead you are wearing them to feel a belonging.  To this, Bhagat kabir ji says, you might as well walk around naked.  The western think tank that you have cherished for so long is actually killing you.  It's sending you to your grave.  Gurbani calls people like you and me as wild hunters.  There is a whole shabad on us.  Go and search for it and engrave it in your mind.  Anytime you feel the desire to lash out at others think of that shabad and recognize your mistakes.  You need to reprogram your mind.  Now this is not a simple job.  It takes time and dedication.   Anand Sahib read with utmost respect and attention will also destroy your western views.  Lastly,  if you are still having a problem making a distinction between rituals and not.  Well as you breath right now, it too is a ritual according to Gurbani.   So should you stop breathing because you didn't understand the Guru's teaching?  Bhagat kabir ji says never to leave the battlefield( world) even if you are cut peice by peice.  So their is your answer to suicide as well.  It's not a Gurmat practice and the Guru is saying respect and fear me.  Remember don't be a wild hunter.

The OP

  • It's fantastic that you are building an Amrit vela!
  • You were tested, and you did your best! Learn from any perceived mistakes
  • Don't worry about whether "it" counted.
    • Ultimately we should aim to do bhagtee/simran/sewa/gurmat related actions without any expectation of reward and with devotion
      • both of these are key
        • devotion/love
        • without expectation of reward
          • both don't come easily and are not easy to sustain
            • but sticking rigorously to whatever you have heard from PatShah will surely help with this
            • Sadhu dee Sangat / Gurmukha dee Sangat will help in this
            • Ardas will help in this
  • My opinion on reading Gurbani from electronic devices
    • The level of respect/worship/reverence towards Gurbani should always as much as possible as outlined by @GuestSingh. However, the following will have an impact on how much you can do
      • Tangible Gurbani - in paper format or something that you can touch must be revered/worshipped/give your head as much as possible
      • Intangible Gurbani
        • on your phones -
        • memorized!
        • these mediums will inevitably contain non Gurmat related content
        • I'm of the opinion that Gurbani on our phones/electrical devices is only Gurbani when it's displayed on the screen. When reading from the device then full protocol as stated by @GuestSingh. should be used. When Gurbani isn't visible on the screen, it's just a digital format i.e. it's not tangible and shouldn't be kept in a rumalla sahib or given respect.
  • Your Bhagtee can be categorized in the following way
    • Formal
      • Your nitnaym - whatever you have promised PatShah to do on a daily basis - for Amritdharis this is there 7 bania, Gurmanter and Mool Mantar jaap
      • the more cleanliness the better e.g. thats why Kesee Isnaan is recommended.
      • the same time and place
      • attention to pronunciation
    • Informal
      • gaps in your daily schedule - e.g. on the school/college/work commute / lunchtimes etc
      • the more effort you put into getting the formal right, the less effort you'll have to put into the informal

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
