Wjkk Wjkf!

Sangatj ji what does Gurbani say about babies being vulnerable to bad spirits?

My family usually doesn't pay much heed to things related to the supernatural or superstitions, but since a baby has been born in my family, I've noticed they do after all believe in such things to some extent. For example, putting a black and white bracelet on the babies wrist, keeping jal from a historical Gurdwara at home and sprinkling it sometimes, beliefs such as not to go near and touch the baby without washing hands and face if you've just come from outside as you could have the "hawa" which could transfer onto the baby, and doing Jaap Sahib when the baby seems very distressed and won't stop crying (I've seen this one work).

Very curious to know your points of view. Looking forward to your responses. Thanks!

Congratulations on having a baby!

Doing naam simran is your best protection. The more gurbani being read in your household the less likely these type of things affect you. Bad spirits can affect anyone, but what can they do to you when Guru Nanak Dev Ji is your protector? Trust gurbani not these superstitions.

yeah obviously, babies immune system is low, their spiritual immune system is also lower. dont listen to ppl who say "Where does it say in Gurbani?", thats not common sense. Gurbani is poetic-spiritual lore, not a direct how -to guide bro.

use your common sense and follow advice of your ancestors/elders they are quite smart

this is not superstition lol. its scientific fact. superstition is like not leaving the house when someone sneezes or some crap like that.

and holy hell, people always say gurbani this gurbani that but have you even looked around you at real life, stuff like black magic exist bruh you have to be smart and avoid it just like bad spirits and people... obviously gurbani protects you 100x more than any of the rituals but the rituals also help its not superstitous unless you take it too far and make it a fearful thing. if its out of love, then do it, if it makes you afraid then your just contributing to the bad vibes and aura of the baby and household situation.

ultimately, read gurbani ,play gurbani but also rmr that things like bad spirits exist so be careful as well. dont be a chicken with your head cut off

Can you quote gurbani where it says..

Actually I don't know it and was hoping someone familiar with the Gurbani related to this topic could quote it.

While i'm not discounting the existence of evil spirits (where there's good there bad right) a lot of the "superstitions" around newborn's have a foot hold in reality, you don't go near a baby without washing at least your hands first because of germs, "hawa" from outside translates to your body temperature when you go see a newborn, if it's cold outside it;s common sense not to pick up a baby until you've warmed up.

Regardless, we always would have Sukhmani Sahib playing when our children were young and it would calm them down.

Amen Veer Ji. I myself feel beset and only by Kirpa and Naam and Gurbani do I even stumble forward. May we all let go and let God and feel a sense of loving protection for one another.

No that’s ridiculous.

Of course babies can sense things, so can we. But they are on their own journey. Rituals etc are rubbish. Instead why not try and do Naam Simran near your baby.
