Yep some people treat langar hall like a soup kitchen. If they just served Dal That would deter people who think Gurdwara is some kind of canteen for free food. Also langar should be plain. Not fancy. Ie so many dishes and sweets. Ect. 

One improvement I have seen is we now have a leaflets area in Gurdwaras for people to learn.

It is the proliferation of Akhand paths, Sukhmani paths and other programmes for birthdays that has exacerbated this.

People start to serve guests like at home rather than serving the sangat.

I remember there was a Saakhi of Guru Sahib shutting down Langar? I forget the details, does anyone here know of it?

Who resides in the Sangat ? Guru. So the Guru is sangat and the sangat is Guru. So would you not want to serve our Guru the best you can?

So what if people come to the Gurdwara for the food, make the best and let them come.

Have big hearts guys, Guru tha langar sabho awaay, let them come the house of Guru Nanak is open to all.

Tell you what, you moaners why don't you cook up dhal and roti at home for a week you will soon get chittar.

This is Guru ghar, let it be the best you can, make the best and serve the best and Guru ji will smile on you.

What is wrong with the proliferation of Akahnd Paaths and Sukhmani sahibs, you think people were doing a sin ! Why shouldn't they do paaths at the gurdwara and why shouldn't you make the best langar you can? Everyone has sharda and everyone wants to make the best .

The usual problem is people stay for 5 minutes after the start of the Akhand Paath and then come 5 minutes before the Bhog. It is disrespect for the institution of Akhand Paath. 

In the old times, the entire pind would sit for as much of the Akand Paath as they could.

These days, you have have multiple Akand Paaths going on at the same time and you have the ridiculous situation of people accidentally matha-teking to the "wrong" Akhand Paath when they come in to the Gurdwara.
