devte and rishis etc grew their hair out. The vedas were written by the rishis who received them through meditation.

Buddhists shave it because for them it represents  attachment to the world.

In some indian religions hair is associated with beauty and attachment so they shave them off    which symbolizes them leaving the materialistic world behind.  It's the reason why north indian women traditionally cover their heads when doing pooja or going mandir  because for them hair represents beauty (ego)  so they cover it.

Different schools of thought in india have had various beliefs when it comes to hair.

In judaism Samsons mother was told not to ever cut his hair.

We have been given the hukham to keep it.

I heard that those buddhists that follow Nanak lama keep their kesh ... goes to show what Guru ji said about kesh  keeping

When someone asks why Sikhs don't cut their hair, most people on the internet and in real life try to be oversmart and end up giving stupid reasons.

Like "hair is a gift from god and we honor that" or "it makes us stand out"  or "we maintain the form that god gave us" . Even if these answers are partially true, these are not the reason we keep our hair. So why do we keep our hair? Because the Guru said so. Simple as that. [ Sikh - student (of the Guru) ]

So when someone asks you, Why do you not cut your hair? Answer, because My Guru said so.

You think saying "My Guru said so" is a better answer than accepting God's will etc..?  So, what if you told some gora that, and he said "ya, but do you know why your Guru asked you to keep your hair?"... Then what answer would you give?

why do you need to justify to a Gora? This is exactly what I am talking about. Thanks for saying this.

Because of this attitude, people add their own reasons "like accepting God's will" etc. But Guru Ji never said this. Guru Ji simply gave Hukam, and as Sikh we follow.

Trust me if you are worried about how this answer of might come off, it's a lot more impressive  than giving a reason like "we live in Gods image" . And because that is a made up answer there could easily be many objections to that.

The real question and topic of this post is, Why do you feel the need to Justify Guru's Hukam of keeping hair by adding your own made up reasons.

"the human hair is also where we store surplus energy or chi for our body. When you reach great states of peace/enlightenment the body starts to secrete what taoist masters call the golden elixir. This is literally the fountain of youth in spirituality."

"In many cultures, the cutting of hair by oppressors was a punishment or humiliation, signifying defeat. The shaving off or complete loss of one’s hair, even in modern society, often symbolizes a seismic shift within a person, whether spiritually, psychologically, medically, or in the direction of their lives."

"The story of Sampson and Delilah in the Bible has a lot of encoded truth to tell us. When Delilah cut Sampson’s hair, the once undefeatable Sampson was defeated."

"Yep,it was actually a "punishment" for "criminals".Gurdjieff mentions in Beelzebubs tales that shaving the beard and cutting hair were "odd" and less than desireable customs. Most American Indians believe cutting their hair is akin to cutting their spirit."

".Hairs are tools to trap the divine energy and whenever needed by thE body for healing, that(traped energy) energy is transmuted to the affected place and heals the affected area of our body.....Like battery holds electricity ,, Hairs holds divinity."

"Hairs have the properties of antenna to catch the cosmic waves!
Have you heard of induction theory in physics? And the resonance principle?
The hairs resonate with the higher energy of akashic realm. You can sense the difference if you carefully sit in barber shop and subtly observing the lose of energy or confidence when hairs are being cut!
Why Englishmen cut down the hairs of native Americans ?
Why Genghis khan forced Chinese pulpils to cut long hairs and wear a metal cap? "

These are some copy paste info I found and saved, there's more. It's interesting to say the least.

You do realize that (according to texts) that's exactly the reason that Guru ji gave to keep hair? In the Mecca-Medina Gosht, Guru Nanak ji said:

Saabat surat rabb ki bhanne beiman

(The fool destroys the uncut form of God.)

That's not a "made up reason", like you allege.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
