waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh ji

i am 26 n a half year old and my parents are looking forward to my marriage.. it has been 3 years they have been looking but i am looking forward to amritdhari boy, my parents are not much supportive of this. I met couple of boys in the past but no one was ready, i also have this fear that what if i marry to someone having completely different lifestyle than me because i am keen to move forward in sikhi and not step back.. i am non amritdhari but want to go forward in sikhi, recently i came across one family they said that you can take amrit but after 6 months or a year. Boy isn't recently ready but he says that maybe by seeing me he will too get into this but that would require quite a time.

what should i do ji it seem very difficult to decide ?

First of all, get in touch with sangat. Talk with older, devout SIkh women your mother's age. Tell them your predicament, and ask them to talk to your parents.

Also ask them to find you a match at your same level of Sikhi.

They say never marry with the expectation that your spouse will change. What if he never gets motivated by you? He wants to party and hates how you don't want to go. Or doesn't like that you don't wear make up.

It's better to wait to find someone compatible before hand. You can also take a hukamnama to see if this person is right for you.

Not to be offensive. But it has been my dearest wish to be a matchmaker. So if you are in the UK. I suggest you would be more compatible with the fellow user Puzzled on this site. He is not amritdhari yet. But is heading there. No offense to anyone. Forgive my forwardness.

Best to find someone on same level.  Whenever you decide to take amrith then realistically you can only marry an Amritdhari man and at the time and stage although your parents are not supportive of you marrying an Gursikh guy they won’t really have any other option as you will be a Gursikh yourself.

However, only take amrith once you feel ready and have the thirst to give your sees to Guru sahib ??

Self portrait

Who am I?

I'm a 31 year old British Sikh guy living in London. Originally from Indian/African background.

Passion in growing businesses and music means I love what I do in life and therefore always in a state of happiness and gratitude.

I'm also spiritual, into fitness and love travelling.

**Disclaimer** - My favorite color is not pink! I just happen to have worn pink.

Self portrait 2

What I'm looking for

Since covid, it's been tough to get yourself out there. Apps are declining and I'm more interested in meeting than countless texting & swiping. So it's time to do something more creative!

I'm open to any race for my ideal partner. Someone who is family orientated, humble, and wants to make the most of life. Appreciating humour and not taking life too seriously is key.

Having a good personality is important, with a positive and modern mindset (I am far from a traditionalist).

Found this part of his ‘spiel’ interesting

“I'm open to any race for my ideal partner. Someone who is family orientated, humble, and wants to make the most of life….

…and modern mindset (I am far from a traditionalist).”

This reveals far more about the guy than 10 pages of A4 about himself ever could.

Clueless about the world, about women, about men, about himself, about everything.

Not the greatest idea. Looks like he’s taken inspiration from ‘Find Malik a Wife’.

Except he at least prioritised his faith

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
