Kabul: Afghan forces on Saturday arrested the chief of terror outfit  Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), Mawlawi Abdullah aka Aslam Farooqui for plotting the attack on a gurdwara in Kabul last month. The ISKP had claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed at least 27 Sikhs, on a Gurdwara in the capital Kabul city.

According to the sources, Afghanistan's Intel Agency, National Directorate of Security (NDS), has confirmed the arrest of IS Khorasan Chief. The NDS said Aslam Farooqui had links with Pakistan based terror networks like Lashkar-e-Tayebba and Haqqani network.

Four Pakistani nationals and Islamic State members - Masoudullah from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khan Mohammad from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Salman from Karachi, and Ali Mohammad from Islamabad - have also been arrested in connection with the Kabul Gurdwara attack, news agency ANI quoted sources as saying.

Mawlawi Abdullah, who is a Pakistani national, had replaced Mawlawi Zia-ul-Haq aka Abu Omar Khorasani as the ISKP chief in April 2019. He belongs to the Mamozai tribe and from the Orakzai agency area on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

March 25 Kabul Gurdwara attack

At least 27 Sikhs, including a child, were killed and eight others left injured when heavily-armed gunmen and suicide bombers stormed a gurudwara in Afghanistan's Kabul on March 25. All four terrorists were killed by the Afghan security forces.

Earlier, Indian intelligence agencies had hinted that the LeT and  Haqqani network could be responsible for the attack on Sikhs in Afghanistan. Afghanistan government too had blamed the Haqqani for the terror attack while the Taliban denied its role.

Indian government strongly condemned the attack and extended condolences to the immediate family members of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. "India stands ready to extend all possible assistance to the affected families of the Hindu and Sikh community of Afghanistan," the government said in a statement.
