KPS GILL SAID THE UNTHINKABLE TO SRIDEVI IN 1993

By Daily Sikh Updates / March 2, 2018

“I was afraid to come to Punjab, but after visiting I am no longer afraid.”

“If KPS Gill does role of a hero, I’ll be his heroine.”

These are the words of Sridevi in 1993 newspapers of Punjab when she visited the state.

During Sridevi’s visit to KPS Gill’s residence, he told her that he’d seen the film ‘Chalbaaz’ about 50 times and that she was his ‘Dream Girl.’

The Ajit Weekly’s heading for the visit was: “Gill finally receives his dream girl”

In response to Sridevi’s comments, Shobha De wrote in the Indian Express that the statement by Sridevi is part of an International Intelligence conspiracy.

A Punjabi newspaper reported that Sridevi was under the pressure of the Govt to speak against the Punjab militancy. The reports suggest that the Govt used singers and different shows to report that the Punjab police had been victorious on reducing militancy.

The report suggested that various singers were promoted by the police to showcase the victory of the police and they were used along with many other artists.

Sridevi was visiting Chandigarh in 1993 for the shooting of her film ‘Chander Mukhi’ opposite Salman Khan.

The Director General of the Punjab Police invited the actress to his official residence in Sector 2, Chandigarh. Sridevi was hesitant to come to Punjab due to the militant activities.

The visit of Sridevi was important to the Govt as it sent out a message that peace was restoring in Punjab and that it was safe to visit the state.

KPS Gill took Sridevi in his Govt owner helicopter over the Kansal forest in Chandigarh. A local newspaper of the area reported with the headline: “Supercop, superheroine fly together”.
