1. is listening to music bad for sikhs? i understand simran and kirtan is good but what if we want to be in a more aggressive mood like how theres Nihang Misl songs with rap beats in the back. at the end of the day they are only praising Gods glory rite?

2. is it wrong to produce instrumental rap beats using softwares on my computer? it seems like a nice hobby and pastime to create music instrumentals. or to upload them on YouTube and people actually turn it into a living as well by selling them online or getting artists to send them audio digitally etc.

as Sikhs, we can turn this negative hip hop into something positive, let me know your thoughts on this sadh sangat jio. (im Amritdhari 16-years old)

Hey brother! Question 1 - There’s no limit to the amount of beautiful katha, kirtan and path available, so why not listen to that instead? No songs leave you with  bliss like dhur-ki bani.

Question 2 - Aged 15 I fell in love with katha. I made a YouTube channel to share that love with the world. That was my hobby. Here’s the story of how big it became:

(Separate note, I am looking for a young motivated gursikh who can help make more line by line katha/path videos for my channel. I hope to offer this as a generously paid opportunity by end of this year. Contact me if interested to receive details when available)

No. Life is beautiful and is there for us to experience and explore. Music is fine. Only fools get influenced by rap lyrics etc, they don’t make a difference to a normal balanced soul. Just live your life and stop following such rigid rules. Stay away from inxtoxicants, casual sex etc and live a balanced life but have fun and enjoy it before it’s over.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh. Im also a amritdhari teen (14) . bro i listen to lots of dhadi and kavishri remixes made by kam lohgarh and other producers. I think listening and producing remixes is totally fine. their is nothing wrong in a rap beat. all we should stay a way from is lyrics commonly used in raps. (the ones that talk about drugs, women, egoEct.) otherwise i think making remixes and all that is good as it can totally change a person whos a youth. i used to be mona but i later kept my kesh and changed my whole lifestyle after listening to kavisheris and dhadi remixes. but this is just my opinion. i do not have much knowledge on this.

This is so me! I am 15 and by listening to all this, it has made me remember our Sikh itihaas and make me walk on the right path. Tho sometimes I am too engrossed and listen to the same dhadi dharna 10 times a day, I love it and nothing can stop me. My family finds it annoying but I don't. With maharaj kirpa I am also learning how to tie a dastaar eventough it's taking time and there are obstacle but with maharaj kirpa all problems are resolved. Maharaj bless you always.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
