Harmandir Sahib painting 1854

[puzzled]

Painting of Harmandir Sahib by artist William Carpenter 1854,  looks like a watercolour.   It is quite a different looking isn't it compared to Harmandir Sahib today. There is a Singh doing prakash of Guru Granth Sahib Maharaj out in the open, a random bull in the parkarma, i guess it was drinking water from the sarovar, some pigeons drinking water from from big bowls. There is also someone with their top of by the sarovar, not sure if its male/female. Where Singh is doing prakash of Guru Maharaj there also are two Singh grinding something, bhang?      very different ...

This is the version iv seen at peoples houses in India, they have edited the bull out lol    and also edited out the Singh doing prakash of Maharaj outside!

Another painting by William Carpenter outside Akal Takt Sahib   a lot going on. Man selling flowers to lady, men inside Akal Takht chatting/socializing, and Singh doing prakash of Guru Granth Sahib ji out in the open outside Akal Takht Sahib.

I have this one in my house. The bull was most likely edited out due to Hindu links and likewise the man with the Guru Granth Sahib sitting outside, it's too similar to what a Pandit does.

It's the same case with Guru Nanak's seli topi. Some Sikhs cannot fathom the idea that the first 6 Gurus wore a seli topi instead of a dastaar.

But doesn't that make us look insecure the fact a painting had to be edited because it doesn't look Sikh enough? Guru HarRai Sahib ji kept loads of animals and fed them. Many Gurdware in India have stray dogs outside or within the complex.

Not sure about the earlier Guru Sahibs but didn't Guru Arjan Dev ji tell Sikhs to wear 2 Dastars because the Mughals had banned anyone from wearing Dastar in their own country, and then Guru Hargobind Sahib ji continued the tradition and kept horses and weapons too. I'm pretty sure in Gurbilas 6 says that Guru Hargobind Sahib ji ji told Sikhs to wear dastar and keep weapons and horses.
