You have just done it again!  Using the term ‘thick’ to label hidden disabilities is not right for a Sikh to be using in this context.  A Sikhs character should be to protect the vulnerable and stand up to the bullies, not be worried about being on the receiving end.  I don’t think you have done this intentionally but I do suggest you watch ‘Forest Gump’ again and try and search for the inspirational message within.  My take on it was that no matter how much Forest Gump was limited by his disability and the cards that life had dealt him, he had the hand of ‘Akaal Purkh’ protecting and providing opportunities that worked in his favour.  He ironically had a ‘Chardi Kala’ spirit.

We Sikhs don’t need to be shown in this way. We know what we are.

Indian culture does not appreciate subtle messages live Western culture. Indians will see this as another evidence of Sikhs being ‘dumb’

Maybe you didnt grow up in the 90s like I did but Sikh characters back then were often portrayed as stupid silly characters and they often had names like Chadda or Kohli. I don't want to see a return of this.

I understand your concern, but remember Aamir Khan is very picky about his movie script and generally makes movies that have a good message.  I might be wrong on this but my gut feeling is the movie will portray Sikhs in a good light.  Besides who cares we have our own Punjabi movie industry now, so we can portray the truth about our own people, we can also expose the truth about Brahmins.

I wouldn't trust him. He already mocked Hindus in PK.

The Punjabi film industry is miniscule in size and impact to Bollywood. A lot of the stars in Punjabi cinema are failed Bollywood actors.

A nation that looks to cure terminal conditions with openly drinking ‘Cow Urine’ and worships ‘Shivs Johnson’ has no place as labelling Sikhs ‘dumb’.  For those of you who are not from the UK should know that Gao Mootar use for a cure against Cronavirus made it on the BBC world news. They’ve got worry about there own image before trying define a Sikhs!

Yes look how upset they get when an outsider mocks them. It's the same with us and this movie.

If this becomes a big hit I can guarantee you that some Sikhs will be mocked. Even in first world countries which somewhat understand illnesses people would get made fun off, what do you think will happen in a country like India.

that's true. In those days even their turbans were very bad.

Lately bollywood has been showing sardaar characters with proper beautiful turbans.

even laal singh  chaddha is shown wearing proper turban.

Bollywood minted it when :

they influenced sardar's daughters to reject sikh sardars as life partners

they took the mick of dastarwale sardars by creating santa banta characters

they got every sikh being played by muslims or Laafunge Hindu stars in films

they showed sikh males constantly being friendzoned

they showed sikhs as incapable of processing anything in life without getting plastered

they showed sikhs as darpok /idiots/ jokers/ sidekicks

showed a sabat soorat sikh converting to islam to get his girl

and milking sikh ithihaas to generate money for themselves .

agree with u sis

I came across this upcoming Bollywood film which is a remake of Forrest Gump. It's produced by Aamir Khan and also starring him.

So who do they choose to play the low IQ dim witted lead character? A full Sardar.

It's a disgrace and shows that Bollywood still hasn't changed much in it's portrayals of Sikhs.

We're just simple minded do gooders to them.

True !  I agree with what you said ? Why Low IQ character for sikhs ?

And BTW guess what, our people in india are so simpleton, they judge a movie as pro-sikh just because Aamir khan had put on a turban and full beard. Without seeing movie and judging it, they have judged the movie as good for sikhs and have even handed him siropas in more than one big gurudwaras.

No wonder our simpleton lot are in the predicament that we're in now

Forrest Gump was a positive character.

a simple guy who excelled in every thing he tried.

Sikhs can be depicted as positive without being shown as low IQ characters.
