Me neither that's why a new Sikh leadership is needed now one that doesn't sell out their own people and fights for interests of the Sikh kaum.

If we confederated Jathas we could elect representatives, to elect representatives, to continually renew a global Panj Pyare.

We could even collaborate with others like the Sioux nation who are proponents of this family based, consensus based, representative based collaborative government model.

If anyone is interested in the methods and tactics of cultural oppression and genocide by the United States as well as insight into the minds and culture of the Oglala Sioux and the American Indian Movement this video by Russell Means is amazing.

The intro narrator's voice cracks me up but the video is worth watching.

It's actually 5, Ankush Thakur is a Sardar.

So that's 1/4 of all dead. We are less than 2% of the population. I want over representation in CEOs and technical jobs, not the army.

No he was a Hindu from Hamirpur.

During the 1965 war with pakistan the Sikh leadership under akali dal told central govt in delhi they would encourage Sikhs to join the indian army to fight pakistan if delhi gave concessions to Sikhs, it seemed to work as they were then granted Sikh majority punjab along linguistic lines but at a cost of splitting punjab in 3 different entities.

No there was no such ultimatum to the govt. Most of the leaders were in jail and it was the fact that the Sikh masses in the rural areas at the Pakistan border who helped the army in the war that created pressure on the govt to concede Punjabi suba, but even the govt made sure that Punjabi speaking areas were kept out and Chandhigarh was made joint capital and Punjab's waters were spilt with the other states. If there is war with China there is no need for the Sikh civilians to be involved, in 1965 the war was on our doorstep, this time let the Himachalis and Ladakhis fight for India.

Seems liIe the military deliberately pushes our brothers to the forefront in more perilous situations, like it happened in kargil. Cannon fodder

True probably over a third of all the soldiers who have been killed in Kashmir in the last few years were Sikhs . We all know that after 1984 the Indian govt restricted Sikh recruitment to the army and we are probably less than 5% of the army but the govt makes sure that Sikhs are the first ones sent into danger.

There was no ultimatum but there was secret talks and appeals going on between the Sikh leadership under the akalis to the central government in regards to Sikh contributions to the war effort against pakistan. It is that valued and necessary contribution that swayed the government to concede to the demands of the punjabi suba movement not just those mass arrests and peaceful protests. Same sort of thing happened in history but against Sikhs when certain tiwana punjabi muslims aided and conspired with the british invaders in conquering punjab and in 1857 indian mutiny these guys were given more political power and held sway in what parts of punjab that would come under pakistan when radcliff drew his line to split the punjab.

In terms of wars for India then Sikh soldiers will always be used. The punjabi Sikhs have a bravado instilled inside them that makes them born and raised fighters. If there's war with china it is the best time to negotiate the rewards and privileges in law for Sikhs. Sikh soldiers should present themselves to the leadership and vow not to fight for India until the Sikhs political and religious grievances are addressed. Otherwise if china and pakistan was to invade who know maybe some Sikhs may welcome the invaders if they can get favorable outcomes in terms of having their own independent nation state.

Hindu right wing wants to make india 'vishwa guru' (world teacher) as modi ji says.

Long term agenda is to make 'akhand bharat' which is ultimate utopia of hindutva

they like to swear at nehru gandhi family a lot for historical blunders, the repercussions of  which according to them the nation still suffers till today

20% of the deaths despites being only 2% of population , idiots will beat their chests in pride and say it shows our courage but I say it shows our lack of awareness at how our people are sacrificed at every given opportunity in disproportinate numbers ; these are the flower of our youths the stronger alpha types . Rajiv sent our lads to Sri Lanka to catch bullets and bombs after the bengal/biharis had their way with the women and girls of Tamils and killed and tortured the men  and boys. A pattern that is standard now since 1947; rile the enemy then send the sikhs in to catch the backlash

it is delusional to think GOI ever respected or gave anything to sikhs because of services rendered; they reneged on every promise from day one . Sikh generals who were heroes on those wars were rapidly badmouthed and attempts to discharge with some black marks on their records was made by GOI (just refer to how General Suhbeg Singh ji was treated prior to his joining Sant ji)

    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
    • Good way of putting it, bro. One of the ongoing themes of Gurbani is the fake saint. Whether it's fake babas in Punjab or English-speaking personalities in the West, it's an continuing problem of religion through the centuries (and it's not exclusive to us by any means, this applies to all human societies).
    • First of all, while it's true that Gurbani says slandering a Saint has such-and-such effects, you can't do the reverse: You can't look and your situation and know for certain what caused it. We're not encouraged to mope over our situations but rather to accept the hukam (will). The last line of the very first pauri of Japji Sahib says to live in hukam: ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ hukam rajāī chalanā nānak likhiā nāl .1. O Nanak! By obeying, the pre-ordained order of the Lord's will. Secondly, the astpadhi from which you quoted the Sant ka dokhi verses has this verse at the end: ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ jis nō kripā karai tis āpan nām dēi . God gives His Name to those unto whom He shows His mercy. So ask for his mercy. Also check out the 7th Astpadi, which talks about the good effects of the sangat of a Sadhu: https://khojgurbani.com/shabad/271/709?highlighted_scripture_id=12007&highlighted_scripture_lang=gurmukhi&selected_content=gurbani I'm not getting into who is a "true" Sadhu in this post.
    • In langar it should be common sense for peopel to find a suitable space to sit. Normally in my local Singh Sabha gurdwara, there is enough space to sit, so I am able to find a space with enough space away from other people. There have been a few times, where there has been a lot of sangat and I have been forced onto a table.  In Slough and Southall Singh Sabha, Park Avenue, I will just sit near another group of men unless I am with family, but again there shouldn't be strict gender separation and instead common sense logic.
    • Yeh I could do to be honest. It's not really chardikala to be coming from the diwan hall and then sangat putting on shoes to go langar. I like sitting in the gurdwara with family, and there are spaces for this in bigger gurdwaras such as Slough, Southall, Coventry. In my current local area gurdwaras this is not really possible for weekly sangat, and also not for sangrand and gurpurb. Need to complain about these tendikalaUK practices  to be UK chardikala Singhs!
