ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਨਵੇਂ ਆਏ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਨਾਲ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ ਹੈ?

ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ ਆਏ ਨਵੇਂ ਬੱਚੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਥੇ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਇਥੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਰਹਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਸੰਦੀਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾ ਹੈ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਗੱਲ, ਕੋਈ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਆਦਤ, ਕੋਈ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ, ਸਰੀ ਦੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਰੇਡੀਓ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਫੇਸਬੁੱਕ ਪੇਜਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤਿੰਨ-ਚਾਰ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਵਿਚ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਵੀ ਉਸੇ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਲੜਾਈ ਸੀ, ਜਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਲੜਾਈਆਂ ਇਸ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ। ਪਰ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਡੀ ਕਮਿਉਨਿਟੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜਾਈ-ਭੜਾਈ ਦਾ ਕਲਚਰ ਫੈਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ; ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਸਾਡੀ ਕਮਿਉਨਿਟੀ ਦੀ ਬੇਜ਼ਤੀ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਲੋਕ ਐਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲ ਰਹੇ ‘ਹਿੰਸਾ ਦੇ ਰੁਝਾਨਾਂ’ ਖਿਲਾਫ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਸਿਟੀ ਹਾਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਰੈਲੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ ਇਕ ਟਾਊਨਹਾਲ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਰੱਖੀ ਗਈ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੜੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਟਾਊਨਹਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਆਮ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤਾਂ ਸਨ: “ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਹਿਣ ਸਹਿਣ ਬੜਾ ਮਾੜਾ ਹੈ”, “ ਇਹ ਜਿਸ ਸਟਰੀਟ ਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ, ਉਥੇ ਟੋਲੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ’, “ ਇਹ ਇਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਦੇ ਮੋਢੇ ਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਦੇ ਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਚੱਪਲਾਂ ਪਾਕੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਘੁੰਮਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ”, ‘ਜਿਸ ਬੇਸਮੈਂਟ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਐਨੀ ਗੰਦੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ ਕਿ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਗਲੇ ਕਿਰਾਏਦਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਰੈਨੋਵੇਟ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਰਾਏ ਤੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ”, “ਸਟਰੀਟਸ ਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਜਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਾਮੈਂਟ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਨੇ’ ਆਦਿ। ਇਸੇ ਟਾਊਨਹਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਦੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਗੈਰ-ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕੌਂਸਲਰ ਜਾਂ ਲੋਕਲ ਪਾਲਿਟੀਸ਼ਨ ਆਏ ਸਨ। ਮੇਰਾ ਇਕ ਵਾਕਫ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਪਾਲਿਟੀਸ਼ਨ ਹਾਲ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗ ਪਿਆ। ਉਹ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਕੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲੋਕ ਐਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਸਨ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਸਮਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਆ ਰਹੀ ਕਿ ਜੇ ਮੁੰਡਿਆ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੜਾਈ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਕਮਿਉਨਿਟੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਐਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਪੁਰਤਗਾਲੀ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਾਲਿਟੀਸ਼ਨ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਕਿੰਨੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਕਮਿਉਨਿਟੀਜ਼ ਹਨ, ਸਮੇਤ ਕਾਲਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਟੈਲੀਅਨਜ਼ ਦੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਗੈਂਗ ਨੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤਾਂ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚੱਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਤਾਂ ਫੇਰ ਧੱਕਾ-ਮੁੱਕੀ ਹੀ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।

ਇਹ ਬੱਚੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੋਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਗਏ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਵਾਜ਼ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਬਾਥਰੂਮ ਚੱਪਲਾਂ ਪਾਕੇ ਹੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਜਾਂ ਸਟੋਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਨੇ। ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦੇ, ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਹ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ  ਨਾਂ ‘ਚੱਪਲ ਗੈਂਗ’ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਕਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਸੂਈ ਅੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਨਿੱਕੀ ਗੱਲ ਵੀ ਚੁਭਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਦੋ ਤਿੰਨ ਘਟਨਾਵਾਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ। ਬਰੈਂਪਟਨ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੈਰੀਡਨ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਇਕ ਪਲਾਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ੈਰੀਡਨ ਪਲਾਜ਼ਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਥੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਲੜਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੋਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਗਏ ਕਈ ਲੜਕੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਹਰਕਤਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਇਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਓਪਰੀਆਂ ਲੱਗਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਓਪਰੀਆਂ ਆਦਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਭ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਲਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਟਿਕਟਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਤੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਖੂਬ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੋਈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਡਿਸਟੈਂਸਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਰੂਲਜ਼ ਦੀ ਪਾਲਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ। ਇਤਫਾਕਨ ਜਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੜਕਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਸੀ, ਉਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਡਾਊਨਟਾਊਨ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਪਾਰਕ ਦਾ ਵੀਡੀਓ ਇਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਵਿਚ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਡਿਸਟੈਂਸਿੰਗ ਦੇ ਰੂਲਜ਼ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਾਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਮ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਧਾਰਾ ਸਮਝੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਗੋਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਸੇ। ਕਹਿਣ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁੱਝ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਮਾਨਸਿਕਤਾ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਹੀ ਅਜੀਬ ਲੱਗਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਚੁਭਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਹੁਣ ਕੁੱਝ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਕ ਲੜਕੇ ਦਾ ਵੀਡੀਓ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ। ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੜਿਆ ਪਿਸਤੌਲ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੱਢਕੇ ਦਿਖਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਬੜੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਹਰਕਤਾਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਾਡਾ ਕਲਚਰ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਕਾਮੈਂਟ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਹੋਵੇ।

ਸੁਆਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਡੇ ਲੋਕ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ? ਨਵੇਂ ਆਏ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੂਈ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਅੜੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ?

ਇਸ ਦਾ ਜਵਾਬ ਮੇਰੇ ਇਕ ਮੀਡੀਆ ਕੁਲੀਗ ਨੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਜੰਮਪਲ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸੱਤਰਵਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਇਥੇ ਰਹਿ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।

ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਅੱਸੀਵਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਕਾਫੀ ਛੋਟਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਚੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਿਫਿਊਜੀ ਲੋਕ ਆਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਨਵੇਂ ਆਏ ਲੋਕ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਆਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕੁਦਰਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਸਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਜੇ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਰਹਿਣ ਸਹਿਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ। ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਸਦੇ ਮੰਮੀ-ਪਾਪਾ ਵਾਲੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਵੇਂ ਆਏ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ  ਕਿ ਇਹ ਨਵੇਂ ਆਏ ਲੋਕ ਸਾਡਾ ਕਲਚਰ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਮੇਜ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਹੈ।
