God in today's society

What place does God hold in today's society within the Punjabi diaspora? Is God or Gods or whatever they worship relevant? Does God play a important role in ones relationships, decisions, moral dilemmas and new beginnings.

Do Punjabis revolve their life around a devine being/beings, and believe in a afterlife, believe in consequences of their actions and divine judgement. Gods involvement in the world?

And if they believe in a God/Gods do they belive in creating a relationship with him.

It would be interesting to see what Punjabi peoples beliefs are and the relevance of God in their lives, in particular the ones aged under 40. What % are atheists and agnostics.

A) I see God as someone who i can turn to during times of worry and someone to thank when we have happiness.

B) This may sound bad but I don't really have a thirst to actually meet him, its just nice knowing he's there for comfort and that he is an infinite source of energy/has the power to do anything.

C) I do fear God as in I feel like if I stop praying/ start slacking things will turn bad and he'll stop supporting me.

D) One thing i do find funny is that if anything goes good we give God the credit, when something goes bad we blame our karam and then when things start looking good again we start saying that God saved us etc etc. For example: with my marraige when the rishta turned up everyone was praising God and saying how kind he had by blessing us with an amritdhari family and now suddenly it's all my bad karam and how God's saved me etc etc. It just a massive switch.

A) Though it is a very much limited view of the whole, yet it is better than nothing.

B) Well we are all failures, but that is what for Guru Jee is here for us, to inspire us and infuse His love in us, though His bhakti.

C) You need not fear, He Sachay Patshah is not that hungry for praises, that is not His nature. Nothing bad or good will happen, just because you have no feelings to pray, but that alone will happen, whatsoever karam/sanskaras you have come with in this life. Though one must be aware, that since we left our true Home in Sach Khand, we have been wandering in agaynta throughout the endless cycles of births and deaths. It is by His apaar kirpa, that one is blessed with a human body, in order to understand the higher subtle truths taught by Guru Jee, so that we board on the jahaaz of His Nam and safely reach our true Home in His lap, thus free ourselves from the painful wheel of 84 lakhs joonees.

In this respect the Bani tells us Bhaee parapat manukh de hureeya, Gobind milan kee eh teree bareeya.

D) Sorry, but most of us are hankarees, so the idea behind to praise Him for our goodness and blame ourselves for the so called wrong happenings with us, is just that we do ot inflate our ego more than what it already is, and remain as much as possible in the state of humbleness. That´s it.

To love Him is like walking in the Light, thus we commit no accidents; but if we turn our faces from that Light, we are surrounded by darkness, thus sure to commit accidents, and get hurt.

Darkness in the above example, is agyanta, maya, vikars, karmas. The hurt is the result of our karmas in that very darkness, which menas we are perpetuating our stay in the chaurasee ka chakar or the wheel of births and deaths.

On the other side, if we love and devote ourselves to Him, then, we walk in the Light of true gyan, thus we become aware of the higher truths and refrain to do any such thing which may keep us prisoners here in the mayavee creation. Not only that, but we board on that jahaaz of Nam, which will ferry us across forever to relams of supreme Truth, Satnam.

So, in fact it is we who have His  need , He, Him alone; He is complete by Himself, and already an Infinte Ocean  of Truth, love and consciousness.

The Sun is up there, it makes no difference to it, what we say or do to Him, but, for us is important to face ourselves towards it,  in order to benefit from its light and warmth;  or on the contrary  turn our faces from it, and move towards pitch darkness, thus bound to remain sick with karmas and all the negativity with which one can imagine.

Read the Bani with attention, and with time and kirpa, one may realize His wonderful and indescribable lovingly and merciful nature.
