Adding bani to sohila sahib and rakhyea de shabad

Vaheguru ji ka khalsa Vaheguru ji ki fateh ki fateh ji

I have been doing the hazuri gutka sohila sahib for about a year and a half now and because I have more time, I want to add more bani's to read before rakheya de shabad and kirtan sohila sahib, are there any banis or shabads that I can add?

I think there are quite a few variations of how much bani Sikh's read at bedtime. The very basic consists of the 5 shabads that you will find in SGPC gutkay. Taksali gutkay have then added the rakheya de shabad which have variations as well. The older gutkay sahib have 4 rakheya de shabad and the Sundar Gutka app by Taksal has 5 or 6.  

Nanaksar have a variation as well and the longest variation I've seen is the Budha daal gutka sahib which has a mini Japji Sahib and Jaap Sahib added to the end. 

Take your pick. 

A side note, one of Dasam Guru Sahib Jee's 52 hukam is to read the salok Pavan Guru Pani Pita with keertan sohila.

I'm not sure if you already read these Shabads but before the 4 Rakhiya de Shabad - starting Sorath Mahalla 5 - many Gursikhs like to read these 2 Shabads.

 

ਸਿਰ ਮਸ੍ਤਕ ਰਖੵਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੰ ਹਸ੍ਤ ਕਾਯਾ ਰਖੵਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥

The Supreme Lord God has procted my head and forehead; the Transcendent Lord has protected my hands and body.

ਆਤਮ ਰਖੵਾ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਧਨ ਚਰਣ ਰਖੵਾ ਜਗਦੀਸ੍ਵਰਹ ॥

God, my Lord and Master, has saved my soul; the Lord of the Universe has saved my wealth and feet.

ਸਰਬ ਰਖੵਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਯਾਲਹ ਭੈ ਦੂਖ ਬਿਨਾਸਨਹ ॥

The Merciful Guru has protected everything, and destroyed my fear and suffering.

ਭਗਤਿ ਵਛਲ ਅਨਾਥ ਨਾਥੇ ਸਰਣਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਚੁਤਹ ॥੫੨॥

God is the Lover of His devotees, the Master of the masterless. Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Imperishable Primal Lord God. ||52||

ਘੋਰ ਦੁਖੵੰ ਅਨਿਕ ਹਤੵੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਾਰਿਦ੍ਰੰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੵਾਦੰ ॥

Excruciating pain, countless killings, reincarnation, poverty and terrible misery

 

ਮਿਟੰਤ ਸਗਲ ਸਿਮਰੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਵਕ ਕਾਸਟ ਭਸਮੰ ਕਰੋਤਿ ॥੧੮॥

are all destroyed by meditating in remembrance on the Lord's Name, O Nanak, just as fire reduces piles of wood to ashes. ||18||

I was told by a prominent Gursikh  to do at least one Chaupai Sahib the Paat, while sitting on the bed, before going to sleep. He also said, to have a glass of water to hand. Up on completion of the Paat, then drink the water...
