Why are there so many scary bossy middle aged women guarding langar halls?

Why are there so many scary bossy dominating middle aged women fiercely guarding the kitchens in langar halls? 

Some of them look really ferocious and look like they can growl and breath fire out from their nostrils! 

Something needs to be done about this bullying and intimidating behaviour!! 

I once had one slam a cup of chaa at me years ago! I'm never gnna forget that or that woman's face! Everytime I see her I remember that incident.

because their husband's are the budde controlling the finances probably so they feel entitled to treat Guru Langar like their personal empire . Some bebes are just hardworking sewaks who have to tolerate nonsense from gossiping aunties and bibis in the langar rasoi just to get the job done . Some langar kitchens are despicable for the amount of chugliaan and ninda

If that's the case then they need to leave their problems at home and stop bringing them to the Langar hall and start snarling at everyone! And if their husbands control the finance then perhaps the women should get a job!

And do you think these matriarchs will take that lightly? 

They'll drive the youth out with their horns and stampede all over them.

Theres this absolutely scary old one in our langar hall during the mornings and afternoons! Shes as old as a fossil and she is evil! Terrifying! She's always bossing the sangat around, throwing orders at everyone! Wouldn't be surprised if she throws a dagger at someone someday. Before lockdown there were two British Punjabi chaps who were builders and probably came to eat langar for lunch. I could hear their convo and one of them wanted more roti but he was to scared to get up and ask for more roti! I even heard him say "she's looking at me" !  And she was! she was standing there with her knuckles on the worktop looking at him. 

These old fossils need to be driven out, they cant continue terrorizing sangat like this! 

I hope they have taken this lockdown as a opportunity to reflect on how they behave in the langar kitchen.

Is there a mixture of Men and Women in the kitchen?

The youth is equally ill mannered, so don’t even expect good conduct from them. They lack common sense too just like the older generations. In fact, it’s the older generations responsible for passing on their crude mannerisms to this youth loitering around everywhere in the gurdwaras lacking any skill at conversing or communicating  with others. I have had dealings with the cream and the downtrodden of the sikh kaum and I have to admit after studying them, they are all equally as bad if not worse, as each other. 
 

God save us from both. The best thing to do is stop going there where you will find them. In other words, stay away from them. The gurdwaras are not doing any parchaar anymore so, why go there? 

However, it’s our responsibility and duty to show respect to our elders. Never forget, the kaums which stop respecting  their seniors decline with a rapid speed,  never to recover again. We have to be respectful to them not only because they are old/older, but also, because they have lived their lives and experienced and overcome many trials and tribulations thrown at them and come up as winners. They have the knowledge and awareness of how to deal with many difficult and troublesome situations, we can learn from them how to survive them. In other words, they are our teachers and we their students. So, I would say be respectful to our seniors and strict the juniors!  Our juniors are totally confused and messed up! The only thing they have been taught is to keep a joora on their heads minus the knowledge, responsibility and respect it signifies! As they grow older they indulge in everything that top-knot on their heads prohibits them from doing! The girls dressed half naked trotting in the gurdwaras to flaunt their best bits!! Shocking!

yes there are normally a few men in the kitchen in the evenings but they are not fiercely territorial like the women in the kitchen!  the men in the kitchen are polite

By and large, the men understand the holiness and dignity of the process of preparing langar, and it's bigger meaning beyond the consumption of food. It's a solemn, religious duty that's undertaken with respect and restraint. Unfortunately, for most elder Sikh ladies involved in the langar "scene" it's a chance to get out of the house, socialise, and perpetuate the same work environment dynamics they were familiar with prior to reaching retirement age. There's no prem, bhaavna, or shardaa. They reduce and demean the institution of langar so that it's nothing more than a Punjabi food kitchen. The odd bibi who is awake to the spiritual significance of the langar kitchen and its duties is, ironically, disliked or treated with indifference by the "regulars." I could write a sitcom about a UK langar hall, lmao.

We have a black lady at our Gurdwara she became a Sikh, very quite lady, she's normally in the langar hall every evening doing sewa, she doesn't say much and just gets on with sewa,  and those Punjabi dragons tried pushing her out! they just didn't like the fact that another person had joined in with sewa in the langar hall. The lady then told some of the older men at the Gurdwara and i guess they had a word with the bullies in the langar hall.
