Canadians are swimming in debt!

oh yea this is a taboo in our community here in canada. though many own houses some of us though we dont like to admit it are living pay cheque to pay cheque coupled with ageing parents who need looking after but many of us have fallen down the social mobility ladder and are stuck at dead end jobs like  warehouse uber security cleaner etc and these are the children of immigrant punjabis who are canadian born.

I dont think many of uk ppl are aware of this because in canada it is seen as apneh are more high class or upper class but that is just a small and vocal minority there are is a silent minority of us regardless of caste who are livining in hard times

Really? Aren't the Punjabi Sikhs in Canada one of the wealthiest ethnic demographics?

It is said that the millenial generation is going to be poorer than their parent's generation. 

This is going to be the first generation in recent history for this to be the case.

The complete irony of the Boomer unparhh generation being able afford their homes with good pensions and their padhe likheh bacheh not being able to.

The unparhh generation worked hard so that kids don't have to struggle but inadvertently the kids may not have a good retirement. 

Proper messed up.

The elders inadvertently instilled a materialist and consumerist ethic into their children, but without an economic environment to nurture such aspirations, the offspring possess the same, and in most cases, an even higher unquenchable desire for "things" minus any conceivably satisfactory method of obtaining those things. It won't end well. While we aren't too far behind here in the UK, North-American Sikh ostentatiousness and bravado is going to destroy lives.

recession in Canada will be more severe compared to other countries

The benefits that boomers (probably Gen X as well) had over millenials:

- Higher interest rates that provided better savings rates

- Higher interest rates plus only being allowed to borrow 4 times your income which fed into less inflated houseprices, therefore affordable housing.

- Final salary pensions. 

- If you went to University you had your fees paid and a grant maintenance on top of that.

-Employment for life/job security.
