it makes sense as if they haven't dried the mircchaa themselves , they could not be sure of suchumta (i.e. touched by tobacco hands , sharabi hands, jhoote hands) too  much mirchaan increases greed and gluttony for swaad ras .

Jains do extreme of ahimsa so do not eat onions garlic or root vegetables .

I agree with DallySingh that it is probably based in ayurvedic principle of diet we are supposed to  eat a more sattvic selection of foods to support ease of development of abhiyaas .

portuguese have been sending envoys and also the catholic church sent priests from 15th century as Guru ji had gone to their holy centre in 1520 , also in Spain they were aware of sikhi
