Sikh Family in Eastenders

The Panesars, I watch Eastenders sometimes, I like the mum! she's a evil cow lol  It's nice for a British drama/show to portray a Asian woman as a conniving, calculating individual for a change, rather than the weeping suffering woman, a victim of men and "suppressive" culture.

Tbh i think they are quite an accurate portrayal of the modern westernized liberal British Punjabi family. Not that different to families where the kids are in their 20s and their parents were born in the UK too. The sister joins her brothers in the pub and the mother tags along, Punjabis do this today. The older brother with the pagh had a one night stand with a gori and mother didn't have a problem with it the next day.

One thing which is unrealistic is how the older brother the guy with the pagh was Ok with his sister being a lezzer but was not Ok with her dating a Muslim lezzer! realistically if a "Sikh" is liberal enough to be Ok with his sister being a lezzer then why would he have a problem with her dating a Muslim. The character was very open and vocal about not being happy with his sister dating a Muslim woman, usual BBC tactics of evil Hindus/Sikh and goody good Muslims.

On your last point.

For some Sikhs, even if their sibling bats for the other side would still object to the muslim because even if they might disapprove to the sexuality they still would prefer for them not to convert.

Strange logic I know.

If it represented the east end..there would be no white folks on the show... The signs would be Bengali and the queen Vic would be a gastro vegan pub or converted into a 'community welfare hub'

They should move the show to somewhere based in Essex

Maybe this should be in the 'Kaljug thread' ?

EASTENDERS fans are convinced that Stacey Slater and Kheerat Panesar will have sex again after a very flirty cafe scene during tonight's episode.

The pair first slept together back in October last year when they got down and dirty in the businessman's office.

Stacey has only been back a few weeks and the two can't keep away from each other.

The market trader (Lacey Turner) was sat in the café enjoying some peace and quiet away from her mum Jean when the the businessman walked in.

Kheerat (Jaz Singh Deol) asked her who she was finding from and he explained that she'd had a falling out with her mum (Gillian Wright).

When the Kheerat's phone rang, and he said it was his mum Suki, Stacey was intrigued to find out how he keeps his cool with her.

He answered the phone and told her that he was going to be 10 minutes because the coffee machine was broken.

He pulled the chair out opposite Stacey, and asked: "Tell me then, what's the alternative, argue day in day out, until one day she's gone?

"I've only got one mum Stacey, I'll forgive her for anything."

The cleaner joked: "You'll snap one day, Suki will be buried in the allotments!"She added: "Come on then you've got ten minutes. What are you going to do with it? Buy me a drink?"

But Kheerat was worried about what her new wife Eve Unwin would say.

He asked Stacey: ""Wouldn't your wife have something to say about that?"

Stacey said: "I reckon my wife is just glad to be out of prison..."

So thier is Sikh Family in Eastenders  who are badly portrayed in very Indian  stereotypical manner. the father of the family is in Jail. the Eldest son has Dastar(kheerat)  the other 2 sons are mona's  . The daughter is a doctor who is bi-sexual and in relationship with a muslim girl. The mother is just pure evil who faked having cancer so her kids would not leave her.

The family run 3 business  which are

1) call centre

2)convient store

3)landlords renting houses

amongst this the youngest son is know for doing insurance jobs.

The latest scandal saw Jags go to jail as he was framed  (Robbery )insurance job  which went wrong  which was undertaken by the youngest son. jags was framed and reported to the police by his own mother as he was in love with a Muslim girl.

is too far fetched and does not portray  UK Sikhs Punjabis  in the right manner. BBC

still not enough for me to bother to watch eastenders

I remember when the first Lesbian kiss was shown on British TV on Brookside and what a big deal it was and now on Eastenders you have gays kissing left right and centre.

It should really be re-titled as EastBenders now!!

One of the funniest scenes I remember from Eastenders from years ago was when there a young gay guy and he was a victim of gay bashing and was forced by some feral kids to say " I'm a dirty little queer"! That would never happen now

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
