What is the sikh view on this? Are our souls split with a twin somewhere?

Yes, if you understand laavan while anand karaj is performed. You will know that the blissful union with God is attained. Also in Gurbani it is mentioned.. ek jot due moorti, dhan per kaheeyan soe. Which means one soul in two bodies are said to be husband and wife.
