The rich trying to profit from the work done by the farmers and take control, Its happening world over, big companies taking over everything.

BJP taking advantage of the situation and only showing farmers from congress controlled Punjab protesting when there are 1000s protesting from other Northern BJP controlled states.

Indian media doing the usual and linking the protests to Khalistan.

I honestly dont really get what the intended effects of those three legislations are. Most of it seems to be intended to bring free market to the agricultural sector but correct me if I'm not understanding something.

No such thing as a 'free market' my dear confused teen. It's 'free' only to the business men who will make mega fortunes by squeezing the farmer to death.

But why are the farmers in India complaining when farmers in Canada, Australia, UK and America have to operate in a free economy I hear you ask ? Well, that's because those farmers receive huge subsidies from the American, Canadian, UK and EU governments. HUGE subsidies !! So huge that it's worthwhile selling produce at a loss or face value. Let me give you just one example: Ever wondered why Coke or Pepsi tastes different in America and Canada than it does anywhere else in the world ? That's because while we in the UK and everywhere else have it made with sugar, North America makes it with corn syrup.  Why ?   Because, many years ago, those governments gave incentives to manufacturers to switch to corn syrup instead of sugar because farmers in those lands had farmed vast supplies of it, i.e. the interest of the farmer always comes first. That's the difference between the rest of the world and what the farmers in India are fighting for. No subsidies for them. No helping hand for them. They're simply being put to death.

OK Guest Confused Teen.....still confused ?  Let me explain it another way:

  • Around 78% to 80% of the yearly income of a farmer in the UK is provided by you and me as a tax payer in subsidies
  • Farmers in Canada receive on average around $8 Billion each year as subsidies
  • Farmers in America get on average $25 Billion each year as subsidies but this year with Trump buying their votes it's estimated it might be closer to $40 Billion.

So you see what the Indian government is doing - and is being supported by the urban classes* in doing so - is to appeal to the most basic pseudo intellect of the urban middle classes by peddling a half-truth about farmers in the rest of the world operating in a free market and so India must do the same if it is to compete.

*the exception are the Punjab urban classes because of Punjab's very unique set of circumstances in which it has rural farming population very different to rural populations elsewhere in India as it is a rural population with spending habits and money to spend - ensuring the survival of urban economies.

OK Guest Confused Teen......I have no way of knowing whether or not I have now satisfied your confusion about what's going on because you haven't bothered to come back so, assuming you are still confused, let me put it another way:  Urban India is being lied to when it is told by Modi's government that the rest of the rural world operates in a free economy and so India must do also. Urban India swallows these lies because it doesn't have the intellect to know the truth. The truth is that urban Englishmen pay the yearly income of the rural English farmers. Urban Americans pay for the yearly income of the rural farming Americans. Urban Frenchmen pay for the yearly income of the French farmer.  Just using the UK as an example, the average UK household each pays around £300 each year to subsidise the UKs farmers. The official thinking of the UK, French, Italian, Spanish and German governments for example is that the rural landowners are protectors of the countryside and should be paid regardless of whether they grow anything or not. They're seen as a vital cog in the survival of the environment. But....as I said in my first message, don't fall or all this 'free market / free economy' talk. It's all just talk. The same right wingers in the west who talk about anti-socialist anti-communist policies are the biggest consumers of communism when it comes to paying rural landowners / farmers with tax money. The way it works in the UK is that you are paid according to the amount of farming land you own. The average small farmer receives around £30,000 income per year from your taxes but the BIG landowners are positively raking it in. The owner of Grosvenor Farms, for example, who has a personal fortune of £7.5 Billion, receives a salary of £750,000 per year from me and you through our taxes. Saudi Arabia's Prince Bandar, who owns a vast 2000 acre farm in Oxfordshire, is paid £273,000 every year by me and you with our taxes. Meanwhile, libraries are shut down because there's no money - schools don't have enough teachers because there's no money and Health Services are under-funded. The priority is and always has been rural farming. Modi is simply pulling the wool over the eyes of urban India when he tells them how the rest of the world operates in a free market. It doesn't.

The really great thing about this protest is that it has united the whole of Punjab and brought all of India together as one. Look at how the unified force of the Haryana Jats and Punjab Jatts dismantled barriers and brought Delhi to it's knees. These are the good points.  There are however bad points. The bad point is that even after we win and Modi withdraws the farm bills it will simply be back to normal and the true state of normalcy is this:  Punjab is in a terminal state of decline. It's gone from being India's richest state to number 6 or 7 within a decade and all signs point to it slipping to the lower half of the table (i.e. being among India's poorest states) within the next decade. We need the scrapping of these bills to slow that decline but we also need to understand that it will not stop the decline. Punjab is F****d whichever way you look at it.

    • yeh it's true, we shouldn't be lazy and need to learn jhatka shikaar. It doesn't help some of grew up in surrounding areas like Slough and Southall where everyone thought it was super bad for amrit dharis to eat meat, and they were following Sant babas and jathas, and instead the Singhs should have been normalising jhatka just like the recent world war soldiers did. We are trying to rectifiy this and khalsa should learn jhatka.  But I am just writing about bhog for those that are still learning rehit. As I explained, there are all these negative influences in the panth that talk against rehit, but this shouldn't deter us from taking khanda pahul, no matter what level of rehit we are!
    • How is it going to help? The link is of a Sikh hunter. Fine, but what good does that do the lazy Sikh who ate khulla maas in a restaurant? By the way, for the OP, yes, it's against rehit to eat khulla maas.
    • Yeah, Sikhs should do bhog of food they eat. But the point of bhog is to only do bhog of food which is fit to be presented to Maharaj. It's not maryada to do bhog of khulla maas and pretend it's OK to eat. It's not. Come on, bro, you should know better than to bring this Sakhi into it. Is this Sikh in the restaurant accompanied by Guru Gobind Singh ji? Is he fighting a dharam yudh? Or is he merely filling his belly with the nearest restaurant?  Please don't make a mockery of our puratan Singhs' sacrifices by comparing them to lazy Sikhs who eat khulla maas.
    • Seriously?? The Dhadi is trying to be cute. For those who didn't get it, he said: "Some say Maharaj killed bakras (goats). Some say he cut the heads of the Panj Piyaras. The truth is that they weren't goats. It was she-goats (ਬਕਰੀਆਂ). He jhatka'd she-goats. Not he-goats." Wow. This is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard in relation to Sikhi.
    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
