PANJ BANIA DA PAATH

Hey everyone, I'm new to this site and this is my first post. I recently got into Sikhi and for the last 4 months, I have been so into reading history and prayer as well. What I don't understand is different websites. Panj bani paath is what I don't understand. Are the five...3 in morning 1 evening 1 at night. Or is there 5 in the morning and then 1 in evening and 1 at night. 2 or 3 websites contradict each other. Which ones do we have to read. I'm so confused. Please don't laugh or judge me. 

 

What are the 5 and when do you do them? 

 

Some say 3 in morning and some say 5. Is 5 all in morning or are the 5 altogether in total throughout the day? 

Is it:

Japji sahib, Jaap sahib, tav-prasad savaiye in morning and then rehras and kirtan sohila (are these the 5?) 

 

Or is it:

 

Japji sahib, Jaap sahib, tav-prasad savaiye AND chaupai sahib and anand sahib in morning (are these the 5?) And then rehras and kirtan sohila in the evening time.

It depends on what 5 Pyarey told you to do.

They told me 5 Banis in the morning, 1 in the evening and 1 before going to bed.

But then why does SGPC sikh rehat maryada say 3 are recited in the morning? Three banis are usually recited daily by all devoted Sikhs in the early morning as a part of their Nitnem (daily mediations).The banis are:-1.Japji sahib,2.Jaap sahib,3.Tav-prasad savaiye only.

 

This is why I'm confused. I always thought it was 5 in the morning. Why would sgpc sikh rehat maryada say 3 only is fine? I just want answers for closure so I can buy the transliteration and translation versions to study if I need to buy them.

They say 3 because many people have to go to work so it is okay if they read 3 bani.

5 baanis in the morning, 1 evening, 1 night

The Maryada of all the traditional Puratan Sampradiye is as follows:

In the Morning:

Japji Sahib

Jaap Sahib

Suaye

Full 40 pauris of Anand Sahib.

in the evening:

Sri Rehras Saib

Sri Sohila Sahib.

This is the bare minimum. Any other amount of Bani can be read. Mool Mantar and Waheguru Mantar are also a daily requirement. But as far as Nitnem Bani is stated, then the above is the absolute minimum.

This tradition has been passed down from Gursikh to Gursikh, ever since the time of Guru Ji. The traditional Sampradaiye Sikhs have not made any changes...

So:

In the Morning:

Japji Sahib

Jaap Sahib

Suaye

Chopai Sahib

Full 40 pauris of Anand Sahib.
