Some black people resent Sikhs and Indians in general. It's nothing new nor surprising.

I think some of the resentment stems from a feeling that Asians (in the British sense of the word, i.e. groups from the Indian subcontinent) are the "preferred" minority whereas blacks aren't given the benefit of the doubt? There's arguably some truth in that perception but it doesn't tell the whole story. I think some blacks feel Indians are quick to curry favour (no pun intended) with the establishment, while they themselves aren't afforded those opportunities, and they use this justification to point out disparities in education and employment attainment, implying we are given a leg-up compared to them. They never mention their own mindsets and attitudes. We're also seen as a soft touch. They've quietly learned not to mess with Muslims. There's no street-level fear when it comes to Sikhs in the UK. I appreciate places like Canada have a different history.

In the UK the future is black. Their representation in a cultural sense is miles ahead of every other minority. Any other minority who will dare to challenge this inevitability will not be tolerated, and will be dragged into compliance BEHIND blacks. Culturally (TV, sport, music, film) black will be the norm, whereas in a religious sense the lead will be bestowed upon Islam. If you don't fall into these categories, you will not be heard. The only possible way we will be tolerated is if we demean ourselves through complete boot-licking and subservience to the aforementioned "minority" factions, or if we become passionate members of the burgeoning movement to destroy whiteness. Doesn't take a genius to figure out where that will lead.

Blacks aside, Sikhs are hated when we stand up for ourselves, and we're hated when we try to create bridges and cooperate with non-Sikhs.

It is natural for a Sikh to help others. It's what we do, it's the way we are particularly in the context of non-Sikhs. 

There is nothing stopping black people helping out if they so wish.

Actually, there is nothing to stop white people helping out either. 

But this is not a Sikh problem,  this is a problem with elements of the British white community and certain elements of the black community.

Actually, there is nothing to stop white people helping out either. 

But this is not a Sikh problem,  this is a problem with elements of the British white community and certain elements of the black community. 

We're doing what our faith instructs is righteous and godly.

If whites, blacks or Muslims feel that US following our Guru makes THEM look bad, that's their f****** problem.

I agree, it's true, but lets be honest what is that's made them have a different image to UK Sikhs, it their Sikhi or is it their Punjabiness?

Another thing is they live closer together, while here in the UK Sikhs are spread apart, scattered up and down the country. Other than Southall I don't think there is a majority Sikh area, and even Southall is probably Sikh majority because of the fojis.

In this current era where even measured strength and resilience is looked down upon as threatening or a potential danger to others, even something positive that would be generally internalised for good would be criticised. I hate to say it but there are certain necessary evils that keep absolute destructive evils in check. Like that famous quote from True Detective: "The world needs bad men. We keep the other bad men from the door."

It's a mix of both. We have a combination image of being religious fanatics who don't compromise (in the way of Dastar, Kirpan, Kesh, Tables in the Langar); willing to take down opponents in and out of the country ( Air India); violent gangsters; oversized mansions; truckers; politically aggressive ( dozens of MP's, MLA's, Party Leader of NDP, Cabinet Members); and generally a bit pushy to get our way and get ahead. For better or for worse, we here in Canada represent a case study for being both a successful and disliked (for valid reasons in some ways) diaspora Sikh community.
