Deep's trajectory, before he passed away, was towards genuine Khalsa Saroop, not just the superficial adherence to the saroop many cling onto for social reasons. 

Have you not encountered any monays that have become singhs in your life? Most of us know someone who genuinely has bettered their life by slowly pacing themselves towards the khalsa life. These types bring great energy into the Panth.

 

I am asking this genuinely: what cause did deep sidhu inspire the Sikh youth of Punjab to take up? As far as I can tell, the cause was protesting against the agriculture laws that Modi's government sought to enact. While I think that is a worthwhile cause, it is not Sikhi. Did he inspire the Sikh youth to move towards Sikhi in any way? If so, how?

After all, I am sure that her "documentary" on Operation Blue Star was the first time that many western Punjabis heard that something happened in 1984.

 

How about Lilly "Singh"?

While she claims to not follow any religion, she posted photos on social media of herself holding her hands together respectfully at Harmandar Sahib. Just imagine the amazing impact that that had on encouraging the Sikh youth to embrace Sikhi! And imagine the broader impact it had on making millions of non-Sikhs aware that there is a Golden Temple somewhere in India!

I think you haven't followed these events closely and this might be part of the reason you're so bitter about Deep Sidhu. If you're interested I would recommend historian Ajmer Singh's channel, The Sikh Viewpoint, to get a better idea of what Deep was on about. His main thrust was that repealing farm laws should not be seen as the end goal, but a starting point for rallying Sikhs towards greater autonomy and eventual sovereignty. This was the reason  kisan unions, media,  and GOI were villifying and hounding him.

The fact that you can equate these two sells outs with Deep Sidhu shows that you have have a very superficial understanding of this issue. That in itself in this day and age when information is available at the click of a button is criminal in my view.

I think problem also lies there are not many Sikh journalists either. Esp panthic types. We lack intellectuals 

I think they'd sniff out someone like that at the interview stage and make sure he wasn't hired myself.

I don't think many 'Panthic' types would go work for mainstream media, mostly 'liberal' types would. And even if 'Panthic' type, say fresh from Uni and limited life experience, they'd probably quickly move on once they realise they would not be able to write articles that they want to as it doesn't agree with the 'liberal' view.

Well, that would be different, no? "Lilly Singh" (whatever her name is) claims to be not a Sikh. If so, what's she doing in Amritsar? Holding hands together is pure hypocrisy and self-promotion.

Deep, on the other hand, didn't claim to be not a Sikh. Rather he was just an imperfect Sikh. He didn't follow any other religion. He wasn't an atheist. He believed in God and our Gurus. Sure, he was having some fun along the way, but so as Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Would you trade the Maharaja for Abdali or Nader Shah?

A little bit of humility will go a long ways.

Again, no one is saying that Deep should have been a Singh Sahib at Darbar Sahib. That'd be crazy. Just that he was no more anti-Sikh than all the other youth in Punjab who identify as Sikhs.

Well, this is actually true. No reason to praise Lilly for that (because she's a hypocrite in this regard) but it doesn't make it untrue.
